It's my understanding that every time he talks about being unhappy he's referencing the past, whereas with The Format you could tell he was currently depressed. There are even a few direct refernces to his former band. Lyrics taken from "Take Your Time (Coming Home):"

Coach K is on his way down, while Roy Williams is at the peak of his career. I think the best days for Duke are over as long as Krzyzewski stays coach. He no longer has the edge that he did during the early 90s. Carolina owns Duke right now, it might be time for a change.

A jump in statistics, such that i suggested, as well as the change from a rookie of the year candidate to an MVP candidate could be considered break through. If Ted Williams hit .450 following his .402 year it would be considered a break through year for him as well.
