Now if you're looking for a better performing system I do recommend the ASUS UL30 series. Great battery life and 2-3x performance thx to CULV Intel Core 2 Duo

Re: Samsung announces pricing and availability to 2010 LED HDTV product lineup

The 7000 series have begun hitting the store shelves and I have to admit.. I am tempted to pick one up - at least at the 55 inch range. It'll cost an arm and a leg but man.. the thought of an LED LCD HDTV .. makes me drool. Of course the 3D features are a nice thing to have but the truth is - there just isn't enough content in 3D right now.

Of course.. the slightly older generation LED models are coming down in price big time soooo maybe???

Re: On Vacation

amen to that!! Of course given enough time, anything can be broken into. Word processing, email, web surfing - you probably won't notice much of a difference. Anything else? depends. We unfortunately don't have the time to sit down and compare app by app and benchmark things. How was the driver support for you? Did all the components work under OpenSolaris??

As for the fan - it's not too bad but occasionally under high load you do hear it whirring away. I honestly don't notice the fan but that's also b/c I tend to be surrounded by a lot of systems at home so the sound gets washed out by the ambient fan noise :)

Re: Unboxing the Gateway LT3103u 11.6 inch netbook

I do recommend that you pick up an external DVD burner for yourself. They're fairly cheap to get these days. I finally finished my review of the netbook so I should have a little time to do this guide for ya. However, if you want to go ahead and try - it's pretty straightforward. If I remember correctly the only additional drivers you'll need that Win 7 RC X64 doesn't take care of is Wi-Fi, and graphics. I believe Ethernet was detected just fine.
The most important thing you can do is create the recovery application/driver dvd via the Gateway Recovery Management application. You'll need an external USB burner for this tho - but once you have that up and running, you're golden because this DVD will contain the drivers needed for 64 bit Windows. Since most if not all Vista drivers will work under Windows 7 - this worked just fine. I did however end up installing ATI's latest Radeon drivers for the X1200 series I believe.

In any case, I'll try and come up with something this weekend. No promises tho because I need to start working on the Toshiba netbook review too :)

Re: Unboxing the Gateway LT3103u 11.6 inch netbook

I'd love to give those OS's a spin on the system - just need some time to do so.

Re: Unboxing the Gateway LT3103u 11.6 inch netbook

Glad the guide helped!!

Re: Installing Windows XP Professional on Gateway LT3103u

@bohh - sorry it's taking me so long to get the review going. So much to do these days. However, I did want to answer your immediate questions about Adobe Flash playback. On my Windows XP install, I had no problems playing back standard resolution flash videos on both YouTube and Hulu WHEN inside a browser window.
However, viewing these videos in fullscreen was problematic at best. Playback was choppy and the CPU was pegged at 100 percent.

With that said.. 720p playback varied - depending of course whether hardware acceleration was available for video playback. WMV playback at 720p was OK - it was slightly jerky here and there but otherwise acceptable. 1080p? Forget about it. MKV 720p playback has been laughable at best thus far but I need to do more testing.

It should be said all of this was done on Windows XP. I'll be going back to Windows Vista Home Basic shortly and redoing all the tests again.

Re: Installing Windows XP Professional on Gateway LT3103u

There are a couple of ways of getting sound to work.
1.
