No, you're not wrong at all. It's hideously depressing. I love Nokia. But the Ovi Store is a horrid vile joke. It hardly works, and when it does it just looks so amateur.

These kind of crazy car park charges are becoming commonplace, Mike42 is correct and it's well worth fighting. I recently saw a story of a couple who had been in their local Homebase for a few hours, the reason, they spent a few thousand buying stuff for their new house. A few days later they got a parking ticket through the post for spending over two hours in the car park, despite complaining to the store manager with their receipt in hand he refused to do anything!

Both myself and 'the wife' have had 5800's from launch, no problems or defects whatsoever.

Well as it probably has some HD acceleration (hence the HDMI port!) I would imagine the next bit upgrade to Flash in 2010 which supports HD Acceleration Chipsets then this will probably do a little better.

You've got a branded operator phone, so even when there is a new update, and I believe one is coming (with face detection in the camera software!) It could well be a few months later before 3, Orange, O2 (or whoever) deem it 'okay' to run on their network, add their operator logos and shizzle and allow your particular product code to update. Lucky for you 3 are good at this and will get their version of a firmware turned around quicker than most, my friends Orange N96 is still rocking v11 or v12 while my clients with unbranded ones are bang up to date on v30.

Nokia do have a problem when it comes to updating (aside from the above!), changelogs seem to pop up weeks after the firmware, I want to know NOW what the update will do!

My advice, get your product code changed and enjoy slightly more updates, and yes, I know you shouldn't HAVE to, but thems the breaks! :)

Whilst I like the N86, I wouldn't buy one, it's just too fragile, the glass screen just makes it a bit too delicate for my liking. The one I had on trial from Nokia fell off my table onto the floor and smashed, gutted. But it shouldn't do that! Nokia phones tend to be fairly tough, my 5800 has taken a few tumbles, my N95 went flying across a concrete car park, all with very tiny cosmetic impact. I want a phone that can take a knock, be a true pocket warrior, not one that is fragile and weak!

From experience JoikuSpot (which is great) rapes the battery like there is no tomorrow, not a fault of the software, just the fact 3G and WLAN are battery killers. Once your phone battery goes, (unless you have alternative power), you're fucked.

Yes, brilliant post, I was slightly concerned how this one would be handled, but it's great to see that you've summed it all up well (perhaps lacking the venom seen elsewhere!) Not really sure where this leaves Spinvox now to be honest, as they've come out of this looking like liars, and nobody likes a liar.. Time will tell

Yeah - see your point.. just go on their cheapest tarrif and go SIM free :)

BTW that is a total FAIL of a sign, if I ran a shop I would not have laser printed 'Times New Roman' signage, looks vile - but that's probably because i'm a designer and not a sales person :)

Meh... I'd personally bite the large outlay and go SIM free.. if you see another phone you want 6 months down the line, stick it on ebay and get a large chunk of your cash back. 21 Months IS a long time.. specially in Mobile land!

HulloMail certainly does look good, but I do LOVE the transcription side that Spinvox offer, but the Google Contacts integration here is SWEET.. If only the two worked together somehow!

Experienced similar with @O2, they seemed to want me to slope off handset less to a Sim Only deal, and i've spent a disgusting amount with them over the years. Shame really.

No No No Ben... Resistive Touch Screens are good.. one of the reasons @LozzieCunliffe got her 5800XM over the iPhone was the fact the iPhone wanted her to text with her finger, not her girly nails, which the 5800 was happier to do. After using the N86 for a few days now i'm finding it a bit of a PITA to be honest, takes good photos, sure, but it's crashing all over the shop. It's certainly very very nippy, probably one of the fastest S60 phones i've seen (Theme Effects swish and slide nicely, and Maps flies like shit off of a shovel). But the immature firmware just isn't refined yet, i've had browser crashes, video crashes, Nokia Messaging crashes. Hopefully when I can afford my own N86 or N97 they will both be on a more solid firmware.

Here is my entry describing why I'm NOT really mobile, after a bevy of complicated ideas I decided to keep it simple, and resort to begging :) It's all something that just was run off the top of my head in one take (minus a bit where I totally dried up of words!).

I'm for one not massively impressed with it. The app is pretty lame and just feels like some poor widget. We want a proper whizzy app - ala Gravity, not some half baked website. After all this time it's not a massive improvement over Download! The Apple App Store will be kicking the ass of Ovi Store for sometime to come methinks.
