I'm not sure how much I agree with that and how much I think it is just a fairly forward thinking product because to be honest even though Nokia has the majority of the smartphone market at present, personally, I think the devices are beginning to feel quite dated. Although this video still makes the UI look sluggish compared to an iphone (in places).

However, it'll still be interesting.

Re: Nokia N900 Maemo demonstration video

Thanks Ewan, less grumpy now :)

I stand by my first point though, putting a video that can't be watched by an iphone on a website isn't really going to get anyone to move from an iphone to a maemo device.

Cheers

Re: On the face of it, Maemo looks fuuuuuuuuuuking nice

On another note, I thought I read somewhere recently that maemo was going to move to Qt instead of GTK+ ?

Re: On the face of it, Maemo looks fuuuuuuuuuuking nice

Good marketing ... how am I supposed to be lured away from an iphone if I can't even watch the video on their website ? Infact I also don't seem to be able to watch it on my laptop (linux) which does have the flash 10 plugin in firefox3.5.

Ok, so I'm a bit bleeding edge and not necessarily the intended audience, but that made me even more grumpy, I'll have to check it out on the mac when I get home tonight.

Re: [Insert another 'SpinVox bashing' post here]

Definately still a supporter, still thinking how I can fit SV into my secret application idea. To be honest I don't really care how it is transcribed if it works well enough. Ok a bit of clarity would be nice, but I agree that a lot of information is company secrets as such.

Re: Glympse vs. Google Latitude in location sharing battle

Tried buddycloud.com ?

Re: The T-Mobile G1 coming shortly

Hmmm might have to get one then :) gotta admit I'm quite pleased with the iphone dev tools (obviously apart from the openness thing).. Without any data connection ability it would be an extraordinarily expensive basic phone (although very shiny and multi-touch etc..) with the ability to sync media I guess ? and how are users supposed to know wether an app store application will work or not ?

I'm probably jumping the gun a bit here, but it doesn't sound all that great, for users or apple.

Re: More and more annoyed at the book industry

Amazon -> Your Account -> Communications Preferences -> New Products :)

Cheers

Kirk

Re: More and more annoyed at the book industry

I thought the Amazon recommendations stuff did that ? via e-mail ? I suppose that because you actually know your stuff when it comes to the techie side of mobiles if anything that should have made things easier, although these days it seems that a lot of companies don't have the ability to speak to techie people and just expect customer service to deal with "normobs".

I had a situation a long time ago with the orange broadband setup for a friend, he'd had it all sent to him (free on certain mobile contracts) and it never worked, I spoke to customer service and technical support a number of times, shouted at them to do line tests etc.. the funniest part was being asked what operating system I was using (bear in mind that the orange modem thingy wasn't syncing with the exchange), so I told them it didn't matter (they said they had to ask), so I said it was CPM which probably didn't help. Eventually sorted when they figured out 2 months down the line that they hadn't activated the line (despite telling me dates that it was activated). This was at the start of their free broadband offer, so I suspect that it was largely down to over subscription, which seems to affect a lot of launches :)

At least you're up and running.

Re: A tech evangelist’s perspective on the o2/CPW saga

For those companies that can't or won't setup their own forums to solve these sort of problems, there is always http://getsatisfaction.com/ which would be a simple way to get things working better for customers online.
