It's a great tool to use to both find useful and interesting links, and also to have another channel to publicize one's own. If you get a reputation for posting interesting articles I think it will help get more traffic to your blog, and not less.

Re: Did You Know?

Imagine if humans hibernated all winter...

Re: Now the Deal is Closed: Plaxo has Become a Business Unit of Comcast Interactive Media

These things are rarely a good thing for the customer. Since when did corporations exist that put the customer first? Comcast are a good example. They'll readily sell me more and more TV channels containing ever more dross, but the internet service sucks, because they don't make money out of it like they do TV. I don't want 300+ TV channels, I want 50MB+ internet, but until or unless they see some kind of maximized shareholder revenue in that, they're not interested.

Re: louisgray.com: The Talk About Rules for Social Following Is Getting Out of Hand

Quantity rarely equals quality. I can remember back when there were 3 TV channels. Personally , I watch very little TV, and I think the quality of the output has gone down faster than the number of channels has increased.

Also back in those three-channel days, one would perhaps plan an evenings viewing. These days, many people just channel surf, not really watching anything all the way through.

It's the same with Social Media. Subscribe to too many, and you don't have time to separate the wood from the trees, and you end up, skimming past a lot of things, that you WOULD find interesting, if they weren't lost in the noise.

Re: 147xxxx - Did you know that they’re closing hundreds of...

yeah I heard that was happening. Well, then, you're not using it correctly. Filter the noise by removing those creating it in your feed, that's quite simple.

I look for CONSUMER reviews when I am buying online (which I prefer to do than go to the mall, generally speaking). I tend to head to the sites that offer that. Mind you I won't necessarily buy the product from that site. I also look for value for money, once I've decided the product I want.

I do work for a client that realizes that content is king. They produce much of their own content, and they then spread that around their network of sites.

I've never found any attraction in virtual worlds, such as Second Life, and now, Lively. Then again, I'm not a gamer. Perhaps if I was I would find them more fun. Myself, I'd rather have words and images, and perhaps audio and video where required. I don't need to be playing around with an avatar. It doesn't help in any way.

Portable networks? That's why I like Twitter so much. I can start a conversation on my desktop PC, and go seamlessly to SMS.

Re: Strike A Light, Guv

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: Users Fight Back Against the New Facebook

Facebook isn't my major social networking outlet, but I have to say that the new interface is a lot cleaner.

Re: Misuse Of Social Tools-Guilty As Charged | My Philly Network

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: Comcast: The More You Surf, The Slower Your Speed

I couldn't agree more. Right here the freeway is being widened as it clogs up during the peak hours. I suppose the authorities could have imposed a 30 or 40 mph speed limit to try and keep the traffic moving, albeit at a lower speed, but they don't. They spend the money (from the taxpayer), and make the road bigger.

Why can't Comcast do that? Make the pipe bigger. Because Comcast are only really interested in TV, and the net is a very poor second. They'll gladly send me another 30,40,50 channels of dross down that cable, but they don't want to increase what is already one of the slower broadband internet speeds in the world.

They even charge me more if I only want internet and none of the TV dross. That sucks too, but proves the point above.

I'd quite happily pay more for Verizon FiOS, except it's not an option here.

Re: Blackberry

I guess that sums it up really, Jared. No need to read everything. I did that very early on, when I had 3-4 feeds on my feedreader, and have never tried since.

There are always going to be things that you would have found interesting that you miss. That's life. If you want to keep a life, you have to let it go, or I guess social media networking could turn into a demon monster - much the same as anything else can become an obsession too.

Filter out what you consider noise, and then for the most part, it's interesting, it's educational, and it's fun.

Re: Team Forty

I very much agree
