Damien, visiblement tu ne comprends pas bien comment fonctionnent les VE et leur modes d'utilisations qui diffèrent très largement de ce que tu imagines.

Rien à voir avec un moteur "tri" qu'on branche directement sans électronique sur le courant alternatif. Un VE n'est pas une machine outil.

Dans un VE que la source soit mono ou tri, elle est toujours convertie en continu par un redresseur pour stockage dans la batterie en continu. L'électronique du contrôleur de moteur converti plus tard le continu dans ce qu'il a besoin qui est une "sorte" de triphasé en général, mais pas obligatoirement.

Ensuite on a pas besoin de charge rapide à la maison. Si tu dois faire un grand trajet, tu planifie ton trajet pour recharger quand nécessaire sur des chargeurs rapides à plus de 100 kW pour les Tesla et 50 kW au mieux en général pour les autres pour le moment. Des chargeurs à plus de 100 kW pour les non-Tesla sont en cours de déploiement en ce moment un peu partout en Europe notamment sur le réseau ionity (https://ionity.eu/).

A terme avec le standard CCS les charges pourront se faire jusqu'à 450 kW, de quoi recharger une Zoé en 5 minutes (à 20 C).

La recharge rapide à la maison n'a aucun sens économique, donc le monophasé pour la recharge à la maison ne pose aucun problème et il n'est en général pas nécessaire de changer d'abonnement.

Ensuite, toujours avec le standard CCS, les VE permettront d'alimenter la maison la nuit par example, en tant que moyen de stockage des énergies renouvelables. La nuit un foyer à besoin de 2 à 5 kWh ce qui représente moins de 10% de la capacité d'une batterie de VE donc n'impacte que peu la charge jusqu'au lendemain tous les jours de l'année pour les trajets travail maison courses activités. La encore pour les long trajets on ne rechargera jamais à la maison.

I actually tried AWS spot instances before switching to Digital Ocean. I loved this concept of spot pricing. Unfortunately spot prices were still higher at that time than Digital Ocean regular prices and very unpredictable at that. In the end I did not like the implementation. I don't know if this is better now but don't have much time to try again especially since DO pricing is very reasonable and predictable.

I also find DO user interface and API easier and faster than that of AWS. I really don't see any reason to go back to AWS at this point.

TA does not work, you need to understand the intrinsic value of the assets you are trading. In this case, the value of the asset is zero. Eventually all "supports" will break lower and lower, until it reaches the intrinsic value.

For floating IPs the only limitation I know of is that you need to assign them to a droplet otherwise they charge you something per hour for floating IPs which are not assigned. So the limit is the number of droplets you have.

You might want to implement floating IPs slowly to prepare for a future upgrade or high availability.

I'm happy it was fast for you, maybe reducing disk space can be done without a snapshot, I have not tried that.

They might have kept these 5 GB to reduce the number of people tempted to downgrade. But that's just speculation on my part. It could also be due to some math they did to calculate their new pricing.

If you do not have control of all DNS it would take more time of course because you would have to request your clients to do it for you.

If you have set floating IP addresses you could do it without requiring DNS changes but I assume you are not setup with floating IP addresses.

As a warning, if you choose to downgrade to the $5 plan your existing droplets, it will take quite more than 2 minutes. When I upgraded my droplets if was more like 10 to 15 minutes each. The reason is that the process requires to do a snapshot with the droplet powered off. Snapshots apparently do take a lot of time, depending on how much data you have on your disks.

The low or no-downtime option is to run 2 droplets in parallel during the upgrade process while updating DNS entries and letting old TTL expire.

To make the transition faster you could also first setup floating IPs on the old droplets, get all DNS entries updated by your clients to point at the floating IP addresses, once old values expire you can then copy all files to new droplets and finally switch the floating IPs to the new droplets. This would also give you more flexibility going forward, and the possibility to implement high-availability during future upgrades and/or crashes.

Also consider upgrading your $10 plans for free, this would give you 2 GB / 1 vCPU / 50 GB / 2 TB for the same price. Then moving clients around to reduce the number of droplets you pay for.

Finally you could also have a combination of $10 and $5 droplets where you would stay on the 10 plan for droplet using more the 25 GB.

You probably can do this in a maintenance window.

Otherwise you can choose the first option to copy all files to new servers. This would have no interruption of service: once each new server is up and running, update your DNS to point to the new server public IP address, then after DNS TTL for the modified DNS entry expires you can safely delete the old instance as no traffic will be routed there anymore. You would then have no interruption of service.

You can do that one server at a time of course.

If you only use 25GB or less of disk, you could create a new $5 droplet, copy everything on it, then destroy the old $10 droplet.

You might even be able to do that doing a snapshot of your $10 droplet, this will only copy what you use from the source disk, then create a $5 droplet from the snapshot, and finally destroy the old $10 droplet. The later can be done in half an hour or less.

Have you thought about starting two $5 droplets?

This would not reduce your total cost but would almost double your resources twice the RAM, 2 CPUs, and 50 GB of disk instead of 30 GB.

Comme le montre la vidéo, la réponse à la question 20 est bien "c'est la langue des diablottes." et non pas "'j'ai l'impression d'être sotte". Du coup ça me fait 19/20 au lieu de 18/20.

Après avoir refait le quiz une deuxième fois, les mêmes 20 questions sont posées dans un autre ordre, ainsi que les réponses qui sont proposées dans un ordre différent. Cette fois-ci tout va bien.

J'en déduis qu'il y a un bug qui parfois se produit et fait d'une réponse juste une réponse fausse.

This was a very nice surprise yesterday, made my day.

We are a SAAS provider (https://sharenreview.com) using many $5/month droplets for a highly available-and-scalable architecture. This requires us to plan for failures and early scalability. 512 MB was a bit short to run some applications such as Nodejs or MySQL though and 1 GB now gives us much more room to not worry excessively about memory.

I have resized all our droplets droplets but one (will resize that one over the weekend).

I have been with DigitalOcean for over 4 years and am very happy with your service, no issues whatsoever. So thank you for this great service.

We also use DigitalOcean Spaces (for image storage) which still experiences occasional failures on uploads. I hope this get fixed soon although we have a backup plan when it fails, delivering files from the local SSD and attempting uploads later. Remember our system is designed for failures.

I know there are competitive options out there, this is great as it keeps this industry very efficient. You are showing that you are willing to stay competitive which is great for us. I did switch from AWS four years ago which pricing was no-longer justified. I have no plan to switch again to another provider, the savings would not be justified especially after this upgrade.

I am considering replicating my infrastructure to another provider for higher availability in case there would be a provider-wide failure across multiple data centers in the event of a software-stack bug or provider-wide DOS attack. I wonder what kind of measures you have in place to isolate your data-centers to prevent this kind of failures or attacks. Do you have a blog post for this or would you consider writing one?

I would love to see you guys providing a competitive equivalent to Amazon SES. Sending emails has been a challenge for us as most of your IP addresses or IP blocks have been linked to mail abuse in the past making it hard to build high email sender reputation. If you have other recommandations for this please let us know.

Cette opinion est très mal informée, au mieux elle est une énorme exagération de la position de Nicolas Hulot qui n'est pas un décroissant, mais qui considère à raison que certains secteurs devront décroître, pour que d'autres puisse croître. Je n'ais jamais vu NH se revendiquer du Club de Rome, par contre il milite pour un modèle économique qui tends vers le circulaire et qui n'a rien de décroissant.

This is amazing, definitely worth a scientific study to try to understand why.

I do have an idea, not trying to offend people who have a preference for tabs, I suspect that people who use tabs may have a less efficient mindset in the entreprise that overall yields lower salaries.

It may be because they are too obsessed with low-level, less-important optimizations, lacking a sense of balance with the large set of consequences of a single decision. Not seeing that a good decision from one use case may become a bad decision if it yields a larger set of issues with the set of all use cases.

So when confronted with other complex decisions, they might be more likely to focus excessively on a narrow set of less-critical advantages, disregarding the larger set of more critical disadvantages of a particular decision.

When this is repeated over a large number of decisions, this might result in less efficient learning, work and collaboration, these inefficient results would be picked up by professors, colleges and managers, yielding lower salaries.

A compounding effect might be linked to frustration. The narrow-cases-obsessed individual might become frustrated by his or her inability to convince other people of the validity of their thinking, which is more likely to yield negative, sometimes aggressive, attitudes that are quickly picked up by management yielding lower salaries.

There may be a link with the large spectrum of autism that seems to be prevalent among software developers, some known to be beneficial, but in some cases, it may become counter-productive.

That is definitely worth further study.

Bitcoin n'est pas vraiment une monnaie, au mieux c'est une commodité hautement spéculative. Bitcoin ne sera jamais stable, c'est une valeur déflationniste qui n'a tendance qu'a augmenter, jusqu'au jour où elle s'effondrera, laissant de très lourdes pertes aux derniers entrants.

Son attractivité est essentiellement due au fait que pour le moment elle échappe à tous contrôles, ce qui lui permet d'être un nouveau véhicule de l'évasion fiscale, du blanchiment d'argent, et de rémunération pour les nouveaux virus de type ransomware.

Enfin les transactions ont un fort coût énergétique et des impacts environnementaux croissants dans le temps ce qui limite les transactions à de fortes valeurs, donc très loin de ce qu'une monnaie représente.

Les partisans de Bitcoin et ses dérivés, se basent sur son histoire très courte pour croire dans sa pérennité ce qui les empêche d'envisager les scénarios d'effondrement possibles et sont d'autant plus virulents qu'il possèdent eux-même des Bitcoins. Ils agressent systématiquement sur les réseaux sociaux et ailleurs tout commentaire qui ose mettre en doute l'avenir de leur portefeuille. Une véritable secte que les états laissent faire, jusqu'à ce que le plus grand scandale financier de tous les temps explose.

Le Maroc endeuillé par un terrible accident de la route, qui marque particulièrement parce que la plupart des victimes sont des enfants.

L'article très émotionnel s'en prend essentiellement aux camions, coupables tous désignés et faciles dans ces circonstances, alors que le responsable est la mentalité du makein mouchkil généralisé, qui commence au permis de conduire où on n'apprend pas du tout à conduire; le nom respect de la signalisation au sol qui n'est là semble-t'il que pour la décoration, dans 100% des ronds-points, 99% des conducteurs coupent les lignes, sans signalement bien sûr; et le reste à l'avenant.

Quand à la gendarmerie, elle ne fait des contrôles qu'aux endroits où il n'y a aucun danger, elle tend des pièges avec l'aide d'une signalisation totalement inappropriée et incomplète. Les barrages ne servent strictement à rien, à part ralentir la circulation démontrant un pouvoir de nuisance totalement inepte à améliorer la sécurité routière ou autre.

La makein mouchkil est comme un cancer généralisé, sur la route il tue, dans les administrations il ralenti le pays et le rend totalement non-compétitif, dans les entreprises privées il justifie le moins-que-parfait et de nombreuses arnaques, dans les hôpitaux il laisse crever le pauvre, à l'école il forme ses futurs adeptes, dans les médias il mal-informe et désinforme, quand à l'assemblée il mène les débats.

Il est temps de tordre le coup à cette tradition du makein mouchkil a moins qu'on considère que tous ces morts et inconvénients ne soient en effet pas graves. Dans ce cas il faut surtout pas s'émouvoir de ce qui continuera à se produire.

Mes pensées vont à toutes les victimes de ce système ou tout le monde rejette la faute sur l'autre.

Voted "it depends". I think that at the current state of the technology there is nothing that could be qualified as robot abuse in the sense of pet abuse. So my answer is more like "Not just yet" which was not proposed.

There will come a time when it could be considered abuse if a number of conditions are fulfilled, here are some ideas:
1/ The being should be conscious, and until we understand what this means, we cannot qualify, or disqualify, anything as abuse.
2/ The abuse should result in an permanent change of state that impairs the being in some way, it could be physical or social impairment.
3/ The to qualify as abuse, the act should be intentional, and not-justified by either self-defense or a survival necessity.

Note that this should allow to qualify abuse on a program if it fulfilled the above conditions. I also strongly believe that the qualification of abuse should be extended to all beings, not just pets, and yes that includes all current animals.
