Even 'back in the day', it was easy to see the difference between the two groups. Flower power dickwads were just in it for the hedonistic pleasures. There was never any substance to those people.

Re: Introducing GetGlue.com

I was showing Trish how you guys did the auto login with the addon and showing her I was a Surfer, finally! After 17 years of tooling around the net somebody finally gave me the respect I deserved!

Seriously, the direction you guys are heading is something of beauty to me. Maybe it doesn't get described that way very often, but understand I come from the "empower the people" mindset. Glue gets better and better at connecting people to the things they interact with on a physical level. The more they're connected to the things in everyday life, the more power they have over those things. I love it. It's beautiful.

Re: New Widget Tooltips

I love this. I've been using these widgets for 2 years at Wordout. I've loved 'em since they were part of Blue Organizer. I loved 'em as Indigo. And now I love'm even more. AB seems never to be satisfied with creating the best, always coming up with something better. You guys rock!

Re: First Peek At Rough Drafts

Fraser, I knew you would get it right away. That is exactly it.

Plus, both sides of Gimmee are free! I see lots of uses for this stuff - for instance, one of our first commercials is for a band who are just cutting their 1st cd. We've got some video from one of their live shows that we'll be using in a Gimmee commercial. But we're also giving the band name, referencing some shows they did recently, mentioning their cd and their website and the next upcoming show. Then we just add our 2-3 seconds at the end and voila!
That's a Gimmee!

Thanks for stopping by!

Re: First Peek At Rough Drafts

Essentially, the Gimmee browser add-on is a tool that can be used to gather real-time purchasing interests from active consumers. Its operation is simple: Users are able to actually 'request' ad types (auto, books, vacation, etc) on any page that uses scripted advertising and those ad types are displayed on the user's screen. The page owner (blog, etc) still gets paid for impressions and clicks. No substitution of ad provider takes place. The add-on is totally transparent and legal. The only person exercising control is the one who owns the computer. Gimmee never collects any personally identifying information. An email address is not even required to use the add-on or use the Members site.

It’s hard to correlate interests with intents, but the logical way of looking at things is that if someone takes the time to ask for a particular type of ad, they are thinking about a purchase. With the data, we can apply statistical observations and recognize patterns and trends. As with any other type of statistical data, the bigger the sampling, the more accurate the analysis. The more accurate the possible analyses, the more valuable the data. Bigger, in this case, really is better. Concluding that line of thought, Gimmee needs to be used by as many people as possible as fast as possible. Viral growth is not an option, it’s a necessity. Millions of users would not be too many. Hundreds of millions would be best. The fastest, cheapest way to reach that many people is television marketing purchased at the regional and local level.

Enter the driving force behind all of it – the thing that will make nearly everyone (I hope) in the US eventually install the Gimmee add-on. Every active user of the add-on will have a chance to be on television, starring in our commercials. To get on TV all they have to do is create and upload a 30-second video in any format, to the Members’ site. Videos will be accessible and other Members will vote for the best. The best videos each month will be used in the following month’s television ads. That way, every member has the chance to get on TV, every month. That's what the Members Site is all about.

I'm not sure it would work in the dashboard of your truck. I suppose you could mount a netbook...

Re: My Political Philosophy

'The argument for me is never about the nobility of the cause, but rather the role of the institution and the influence/power that will be handed to an inevitably corrupt organization.

You can’t guilt me with utopian ideals that never materialize or bribe me with a redistribution in my favor. This one does.

I've done a couple of brick-n-mortar businesses locally - and that was enough to make me think I could do a web startup. Whole different animal...

Thanks, Andrew. You've steered me past at least a few (unobvious to me but not to you) obstacles that could have really messed things up. Your value to this community is starting to be reflected in your numbers, but your regular readers already knew... this place is priceless.

Re: Personalized GetGlue Homepages

Thanks for asking!

Gimmee is a web browser add-on that gives you control over what kind of ads you see online. Should be ready for 1st release next month (fingers crossed, salt tossed, gypsy consulted...) You can check it out over at the Gimmee blog.

Re: Gimmee Feedback

We're working hard to get Gimmee released. Once it's ready, you'll be able to install the Gimmee add-on directly from the Gimmee website. Once the installation is complete, your account over at the Members' site will be waiting, and you'll be able to use all the features.

Right now, we're still shooting for our original target date of October 15th. Keep checking in, though - there may be sneak previews!

Re: Personalized GetGlue Homepages

Gee, my friends have strange tastes in music....

This is the most impressive thing I've seen you guys do since Indigo. But also simply fascinated at what they have accomplished in the past 10 years. (I'll leave the particulars to your readers to remember.) Those guys have simply taken over.

Also I'm a bit excited. This has been, so far, the absolute worst economic period I've lived through. I KNOW this is a time for radical change, innovations in every area of society. I fully expect Goldman et al. to fail eventually, but in that failure I see so much opportunity for folks like me that I almost wish it would hurry.

History shows us that every severe economic downturn is immediately followed by world-changing products and services, generating the wealth that drives the eventual broad recovery.

Don't panic. This is a step in that direction, but it's seriously Not Enough.

As noted above in the comments, Digg is notorious for gaming their own system. I stopped going there sometime last year because of the gaming. Nevertheless, I think this is just great - in the end it's a win - win - win for the advertisers, for the website, and for the users.

Re: Digg Ads: Diggers Control How Much Advertisers Pay

At this point the advertisers have no choice! So please take this in the positive light that it's meant.

In a post about "Providing rich examples in blog posts", and especially with a sub-heading like "New rich objects in action", none of the examples are truly 'rich'. A picture of action is action that has been stopped, and is not in action any more.

Don't pauperize the post by providing pictures of the stuff in action. If these tools work in our blogs, then they'll work in yours as well! Would've taken practically no time at all to find and embed a few working examples.
