Sorry.
I think if you had attempted to cover the characteristics of your "hunting" program while give a full discourse of the code base, we would have been there for much longer than an hour. So, I think you spent your time wisely and I certainly didn't hear anyone complaining about the content. Very cool stuff.
As a sysadmin, my interest into the AI field is how I would be able to apply learning algorithms into intelligently processing logfiles and/or other alerting events.

Re: Got back from PyWorks

Hi Jon -- same thing if you're in Cleveland.

Matt

Re: Got back from PyWorks

It was a pleasure meeting you at PyWorks. Good luck with your startup and look me up when you're down in Columbus.

Re: 2D Barcodes

I liked it. I just took the tour and browsed the site. The front page image was very bansky like. :-)
I hope companies like yours will succeed. Good luck.

Re: 2D Barcodes

If I am understanding the technology / techniques correctly, I am guessing that Snapper encodes the barcode with a unique URL to their servers. The devices reading the barcode are directed to Snapper where they can retrieve the intended information?
Their business model is contingent upon being the hub in the center of the spokes of applications and devices using and reading the 2D barcodes?

Re: Project vs. Company (and a bit of me)

Yeah -- I'll blog about that, too, since it's a topic I often talk about but have never written about. Hopefully I'll have something in the next week or so.

Thanks for the idea.

Re: Project vs. Company (and a bit of me)

I just read a similar blog post about another startup, but that story was about it's failure. One of the points / suggestions was "do consulting on knowledge management and start with an open source product". The 'knowledge management' piece had to do with the nature of his startup, but the point of starting with consultant work and using an open source product actually made me think of Puppet.

After being reminded of Puppet, I thought I would pull out your business card, which I received after your presentation at Ohio Linux Fest in '07, and was tempted to email you to inquire and seek advice for people desiring to eventually launch a startup. Instead, I used your website and found your blog where I've found you've already started blogging about the topic of startup challenges.

Again on the topic of helping out fledgling, startup, wanabees, perhaps I can persuade you into blogging on the early days of Puppet? The only thing I recall from the 2min conversation I had with you was that you didn't make any money for several months and your initial work on the product started while holding down a full-time job as a systems administrator. Care to fill in the gaps?

Thanks,
-- Jon
