I really enjoy your podcast. I find myself fully engaged in your conversations.

I was interested in your discussion about Rafter. In particular I was drawn towards Steve's desire for an entity that will succeed in aggregating (I believe it's more like curating) content and managing the various clearance hurdles.

What is your expectation for the future of copy protected educational content? I expect a trend towards self published content where the author can monetize in many ways beyond locking it down.

Re: Cover the Bases Interview with Author Dirk Hayhurst

Thanks Jol .. thank you for taking the time to comment. It was a great pleasure to read the book & to speak with Dirk about it. Wishing him well in all of his pursuits. We will continue to hear from him even after his playing days are done.

Re: Shareist Looks Tremendous

We need to talk ..
http://www.dosynt.com/

Re: Cover the Bases Interview with Author Josh Wilker

Hi Michael, thanks for commenting. My one regret is that I have not had the time to speak with more authors this past year .. however, I hope to spend this offseason catching up with a few of my favorites. It looks like you have some great content on your site as well!

Drop me a line at wisdom <at> baseballisms dot com

Re: Shareist - Content Curation Platform

Grey Poupon model ... if you want it, you've got to pay top dollar for it. It's worth it. It might be counter intuitive, but I think this is especially important at the beginning. Price can always go down, but rarely does it get away with going up. Top shelf gives you a limited customer base to support, keeps out those less committed, and allows you to focus on developing features instead of activations. I understand your conflict (I'm still trying to figure out a Free model). How does the roadmap look from an exit and working backwards?

Re: Should Students Use Pseudonyms Online?

Just discovered your blog and have been devouring it!

This is a great issue to discuss. It crosses many boundaries that we must navigate during our daily lives, and will be with us for a long time.

I completely understand the safety & privacy issues that this topic reveals, as well as the potential for abuse and disruption should an identity get hacked and defaced "for fun", as kids might do. It is easy to see how we would want some protections in place.

However, I also believe that students will start to accumulate content as they progress through their education. A collection of topics and interests, accumulated or discarded as they wish. Their interactions around these topics might become useful as they pursue a career or degree, and it could be beneficial to point to this content (and I include comments, conversations, blog posts, Likes, etc..) as a way of establishing credibility and building a reputation.

The value of this content is diminished without a way to effectively authenticate the owner's identity.

I don't know where the balance is yet.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

Nice Tim .. seems like that is indicative of the Oriole Way. I have a 1969 card of Wally Bunker on the Royals, so he didn't last long in the system.

Re: How Schools Could Use Social Media

Desiree .. He espouses that the lectures that teachers present in front the blackboard could be videos that students watch at home. The more challenging "homework" like exercises & essays could be conducted under the watchful eye of the teacher at school.

Makes sense to me.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

Evan .. don't know of any poetry book that he has published, but of course there is The Bronx Zoo classic. If you are interested, here is an interview I did with his co-author Peter Golenbock about his recent book Steinbrenner - http://baseballisms.com/pod...

Re: Cards from the Diamond

And how cool is it to see Luis Tiant as a Cleveland Indian (sans Fu Manchu)? .. As we build personal reputations, followers assign levels of trust. I value the insights that you will add to your curated content and trust that you have vetted to the original source, as a good curator will do. Those who profess to be curators but only skim content and add inaccurate commentary will quickly lose trust and value. Curation is here, now it's time to seek out the curators.
