The
idea that Charlie O'Donnell mentioned in the comment you were replying
to is the most obvious: we decided to go with a straight "most recent"
for replies initially, but having some slots set aside for "most
frequently replied to" is pretty straightforward and makes a lot of
sense.

You're dead on that it should be reasonable to allow person X to
create a list of the people that person Y is replying to, since the
tweetstream is public anyway. It's less efficient in theory than just
having person X create the list themselves, but people don't always do
what you want them to. :-)

Kevin actually built something that may fit what you want for the link-
focused tweets: http://timelylinks.com. Does some nice stuff like
calling out links that have been tweeted by more than one of the
people that you follow, too.

The more customizable stuff (views filtered by number of times
favorited, topics, what have you) I think is really interesting, but
I'm still wrapping my head around some of the simpler possibilities
right now. :-)

Re: Twitter Lists: Categories and Conversations

Nice! I love the idea of dynamically generated lists. It would be cool if the tool weren't specific to @ replies, but was more general... sort of like Smart Playlists for iTunes, where you could specify what criteria defines the list (@ replies, favorites, posts containing links, etc). Here's a comment I made on Fred's blog a few weeks ago about the concept...

http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2009/10/the-cohort-anal...

Re: Twitter lists: Tagging humanity

Yep, totally agree.

Re: JOE LAZARUS - Last.fm Tumblr Weekly Top Artists

Try this one instead...

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=a40a4...

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: J. It's also interesting to see these trends applied to some areas outside of status updates and social networks. The other day, I bought a sweater from Gilt Groupe's iPhone app. The app pushed an alert to my phone letting me know that a sale just started. I was outside, but didn't want to miss out the great deals, so I browsed a bunch of stuff from my phone and bought a sweater at 75% off in just a few clicks. I thought the experience was so slick that I posted a Gilt invitation to my Twitter followers. At least one person clicked though and signed up, for which Gilt rewarded me with a $25 gift card for the social referral. Mobile, social, real-time shopping.

Re: The Cohort Analysis

That's exactly what twitter is doing. Some examples:

1) Posts from people I follow containing links

2) People retweeted or favorited 3+ times for the keywords 'new york', 'nyc', 'venture capital', or 'vc'.

3) Last 10 people @fredwilson replied to (which is a list that I could create even though I'm not Fred Wilson, based on Fred's public data)

Could make for a cool third-party app based on some of the new API calls.

Re: SoundCloud - SoundGrid now lets you export to...

Thanks for the tip! Through AdSense, Analytics, and DoubleClick, Google tracks a large portion of the sites we visit further up the funnel from search. For the advertisers using Analytics or AdWords conversion tracking, Google also tracks purchase transactions. Presumably, they could provide advertisers with some reports that indicate which content sites ultimately drove conversions and revenue, though there are some obvious privacy issues to work out. If I knew that people who visited the NY Times where later likely to buy on my site, I would increase my ad spend on that site. Google has most of the data to make that happen.

Re: JOE LAZARUS - Last.fm Tumblr Weekly Top Artists

i realized it's actually working. thanks a bunch.

Re: JOE LAZARUS - Last.fm Tumblr Weekly Top Artists

Try this URL when you import the feed into Tumblr...

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=cfc13...
