I'd love to get into it but right now am working on a new section of TFT that's launching on Monday so maybe we can revisit this later?

In the meantime if you're interested here's some more of our posts and podcasts on Kubrick and Tarantino, (including an interview with Dan Richter who worked closely for a year with Kubrick on 2001 and an hour discussion on Eyes Wide Shut):

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2009/08/06/2001-podc...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2009/08/28/stanley-k...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2009/02/13/stanley-k...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2009/08/31/inglourio...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2009/01/04/kubricks-...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2008/08/28/my-favori...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2008/08/22/the-film-...

http://www.thefilmtalk.com/2009/10/19/5-things-...

Re: 2012 – Raising Arizona Mashup

I hear ya Dale - but let's face it, anything's an improvement! ;)

(for me Cusack sells it with his expression - it's like he's hearing the Raising Arizona soundtrack in his head!)

Re: You Voted WHAT? They all wanted to know what that was, having seen Freeman, Damon and Eastwood's name. So, I rewound to watch the trailer and afterwards they were all like, "meh". That also made me tear up, but not in the same way you're talking about.

(And I loved Gran Torino, btw. I was very sad that it failed to garner any Oscar noms. Except for Best Song, I'm fine with that not being nominated - although having Clint sing that live on the awards show would have been awesome!)

Re: Clint Eastwood’s Moral Imagination and Why Glenn Beck Should Read More Speeches

Re: tearing up - you know I think I actually cried a bit while watching Gran Torino - surprising I know, but true - it's the last Dirty Harry film - and he tries to redeem himself through non-violence = brilliant.

Re: TFT 97 – A Serious Man / Amelia / On Nostalgia / The Room

I think you're absolutely right re: the intentional shifting of focus to Arthur to put things in perspective - also notice the absence of water in the pool contrasted with the Canadian Dream Lake - the Coen's are great filmmakers: am glad they're around making pictures!

Re: What to Watch this Halloween

Ahhh...NOSFERATU - who says copyright infringement is all bad! ;)

Re: TFT 97 – A Serious Man / Amelia / On Nostalgia / The Room

Am intrigued by your 'No Country For Old Men' backwards thesis. Inglorious Basterds) or agree (eg. Watchmen, or haven't seen it but it'll be a cold day in hell before I watch Zombieland either way).
I think it's obvious you love movies. Don't let your standard slip just because many more others might disagree. As long as you can justify your opinion (and you do -which makes it worth hearing at the very least) then there's no reason why your personal taste shouldn't be shared in all its glory.
(Edited to admit I didn't hear the Zombieland podcast yet because I knew I had no interest in the movie -now I'll have to listen to it thanks to all this talk, which I wouldn't have done had you not said what you did.)

Re: TFT 95 – The Invention of Lying / Zombieland Reconsidered / Wolf

Thanks for your kind thoughts The_Baron - of course the irony of a critic being affected by criticism is not lost on me! :) but i think spazzattack3k did hit upon something - will try not to be so sour or bitter for our upcoming Where the Wild Things are ep!

Re: Who’s the Best Impersonator of Orson Welles?

Not only that, but a TV show with Robin Williams as an alien named "Mork" spun off from 50's/60's sitcom "Happy Days".

"Mork calling Orson..."<a/ rel="nofollow">

Re: Who’s the Best Impersonator of Orson Welles?

Yes...because of course Orson Welles was Lucas' original choice for the voice of Darth Vader!:

(From IMDB: Welles declined the chance to be the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars (1977) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000080/bio
