I agree with you. Recently, I got an email from an infograph source asking me to edit the link in one of my long research article and add a no-follow tag. I didn't reply. First, the inclusion of their infograph in my article was most useful - Google should not penalize them for that for they did not asked for their infograph to be included in the 1st place. I like adding links in my articles and site for they are relevant and is part of what my site is about.
