Every night every news show in America leads their show with whatever Trump did or said today. His performances are shown in clips, but enough that his message gets out every night. It's no wonder he maintains popularity. The great of voters pay almost no attention to politics, but they repeat back what they hear on the news.

What really offset Clinton's money advantage was the free media that cable shows were giving to Trump. It is also how Trump swamped his Republican rivals.

We had the record from the prior case where she invented new legal theories, all of which were rebuked by the court of appeals. The standard for recusal includes appearance of bias.

We can all lament the fact that it this were Republicans prosecuting any Democratic candidate, it would be three day story in the NYT and on cable. It would not even be mentioned on FOX.

That said, we are merely commenters on a political blog and we can see that appointing that guy was a bad idea. So bad it would likely never occur to any of us - lawyer or not - to do such a thing.

This is the plight of the Democratic Party activist: none of us chose to be here, but here we are and while the job just got a little more difficult, we still need to do it.

The political press always boosts third party candidates if they believe that candidate will hurt the Democratic candidate. See, e.g., Ross Perot, Ralph Nader, Jill Stein. Cf. Pat Buchanan

We are plagued by people who believe something other than beating him in a election will stop Trump.

Get to work on winning the election. Donate, volunteer, make sure everyone you know is voting Democratic all the way down the line, etc.

He is a rare example of a famous person who does not have a single redeeming characteristic.

Completely agree, but there are millions who think he is funny, brave, honest, intelligent, and "tough," however they understand that word. I know people who will not vote for him, but who will still insist he is funny and smart.

The long run problem was that not enough Americans, neither elites nor commoners, stood up to the racist backlash against the civil rights acts. There are times I wonder if but for the Iranian revolution, we'd never have had Reagan. I know Carter's not popular around here, but he'd definitely been better than Reagan. Supreme Court alone, better.

The short run problem is that the institution known as the New York Times hates Hillary Clinton. Especially in 2016, but not just. They led all news sources in promoting smears against all things Clinton since 1992. Add in Comey's personal animus. and we are where we are.

I remember that Chris Matthews - solid liberal - said that everyone liked George W Bush except the crazies. They all fell all over each trying to see who could praise him the most, laugh the most at his stupid jokes, and compare him favorably with historical figures like Winston Churchill.
