I find it hard to believe that Apple would "orphan" users of iWeb and the hosting feature but MacRumors "examined the email headers and believe them to be legitimate." I would like to think that Apple will come up with some kind of solution to transition users to an improved hosting solution.

@Jonny_Woodhead I doubt that will be the main promotional tool for the refreshed MacBook Air. I just think the browser-only mode is a nice bonus feature. It will allow a Mac owner to pass along his MacBook to a friend without having to boot into a "guest" account just to check email, Facebook, etc. The Chrome OS/Chromebook combination is a great concept in theory. In practice, many people still need a powerful device that will run offline apps.

No, it's not necessarily free. As of now the app won't even launch. Only menu bar is visible and the update server isn't responding. I'm not sure what the beta upgrade process is.

Oops, I didn't think of that limitation. I guess your only choice is to do this with an iPhone knowing that it will render the the carrier connectivity useless.

If you have the Develop menu enabled in Safari for OS X, you can select User Agent -> Safari iOS 3.2.2 iPad then visit http://app.ft.com to access this from your desktop. It's a pretty slick looking web app.
