There are simply too many accusations of "Liberal News/Liberal Media" that have been pushed for at least the last 30 years by one side. The "bifurcation" is a result of the a number of things..."news" being forced to have "balance" regardless of facts in order to push a political agenda being number one among them.

Being older than you, I'm probably even more familiar with the expression, so I understood the intent. But the headline is misleading, a trait I'd prefer be associated with the other side rather than our own. If 'sitting on a fire hydrant' is so obvious (and it is) then what's the problem with using that as the headline?

On the up side: you are now a nationally recognized voice. I for one am very pleased with that.

On the down side: if you don't bring your A game every damn time, it reflects badly on the good you have done.

I was thinking the only hope they had was for the conservatives or far right to start their own party which would free the Moderates and Independents to be Republican's or Centrist.

Either way you're right, they have to pull their weeds if they want a their grass (party) to grow.

Agreement entire. Much as I want the Democrats to have a big advantage, I don't want a significant part of the population brainwashed into radical militancy by the Big Lie that I predict the other side will use more and more as their power slips away (sort of the political equivalent of guerrilla warfare: if you're losing badly, fight as dirty as you like and ignore all consequences).

I agree. By that silly standard, every head of state who attended except the one of the final host country 'miscalculated'. It cost him three hours out of his 'day job'. Hardly a weekend of brush-cutting by the former occupant.

I would worry much less about haltiing their decline, except that a lot of the current reform effort is dependent on a charismatic president. If the out of control rhetoric continues and some wing-nut deprives our country of him, our world will change even more than after 9-11.

I hope either someone -- anyone -- with some sense will start bringing the Republican back from the lunatic fringe, or that their lemming-march into the abyss of extremism will pick up steam. The present fragmented, inchoate state of the party is leading to some of the ugliest politics I've seen since the days of Nixon.

Indeed. I think that for this strategy to work, at least a half dozen Republicans with some degree of gravitas need to privately map out a strategy, and then repeatedly denounce the excesses of the party in no uncertain terms.

I believe they have. Perhaps they're even willing to call the Republicans' bluff and let them filibuster the bill. Because if the voters see the Republicans on camera day after day, reading the phone book instead of addressing health care, they would truly vote the party into oblivion. Crass as the Republican leaders are, they're not that stupid. They're bluffing, and health industry friendly Dems like Baucus know it but are using the filibuster as an excuse to kill a public option.

What do we suggest? Simple. Speech that encourages the violent overthrow of our elected government or that can be interpreted as promoting harm to our leaders is illegal. It always has been. So, people that run 'assassination polls' on Facebook, wear assault rifles to Obama events, carry signs about 'watering the tree of liberty' or 'I got your trigger right here' all need to be hauled in and interviewed at the least.
