Hmm will be interesting to see if you will be able to buy this from Aussie retailers and telcos..seem like they'llall be shipped from the US for now, which works out at just $311 at the time of posting :D

What prompted it? The Optus D1 satellite has been at capacity for quite some time, and they have been waiting several years for the D3 to go up. It went up a month ago, and requires two months of configuration, which brings us up to November. Foxtel would normally add channels over time anyway, they've just had to hold off for this satellite to go up.

As for the download content, outside of iView, their isn't really anything on this scale to try and 'keep up' with.

PS Who ever promised Foxtel to be ad free? They've had ads since day one.

The only obvious reactionary measure is the launch of a commercial free kids channel, which seems to be in competition with the BBC owned Cbeebies and ABC3, which are both fresh on the scene and commerical free.

Wow, they've made it much easier on the late '08 Unibody Macbooks. You could literally change the HDD out in 2 minutes once you know what you're doing.

I've been getting about 12-14 hours standby with 3G on, and about 30 hours standby with 3G off (push email etc turned off in all cases, with about 3-5 hours use).

edit: I found my battery improved a lot after I fully charged the battery for about 10 hours, then fully discharged and repeated the process for 4 or 5 days.

I was really surprised how low the stocks are. Most stores I went to had just 2 phones, both reserved. I was able to find an Allphone store with 10 iPhones and zero reserved phones, so managed to get the last one at ten past 9, and walked straight in.

I'm curious to know why Optus wrote this in the terms and conditions.
"You are not able to view your monthly usage prior to receiving your bill."

Optus currently lets you view how much of you cap you have used online, why would they take that away from us?

edit: I'm also wondering what the excess data fees are like, and if they let you add blocks on ie 1gb for $15 etc.

Overall I'm happy with Optus' offerings though.

Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised by Telstra's pricing. Seeing that people can get an iPhone with some calls thrown in, for as little as $999 is good news, and gives me hope that Optus and Vodafone will have to at least match their offers (or probably dramatically beat them as the usually do).

$999 has to be one of the lowest entry level prices for an iPhone world-wide, when you consider people in the US are paying more than double this over 2 years on an entry level iPhone plan (albeit getting unlimited data and a reasonable amount of voice minutes).

$2.99 IMHO is a little steep. But $70+ for a season of Scrubs I can get at JB Hifi for $30? Thats just ridiculous. They're really going to have to work on giving discounts for season passes if they want to get my money.

I also wonder if the Apple TV will get cheaper now, to get a little closer to the US pricing (assuming the Apple TV is a loss leader to sell more TV and movies from iTS, as its half the price in the US).

Wow this whole iPhone in Australia thing has been such a mess so far. I hope the telcos have their stories straight by the time it gets released. I think the reason no one has released any pricing yet is that they don't know yet. Each company waiting to see what the others will do. Its a stalemate. Next: 3 Mobile.

I don't think the traditions GPS manufacturers need worry, they still have a big advantage in the fact that I can use my Navman etc and not have to pay data charges. With the costs so high, and the loading times so much slower than having them maps stored locally, the iPhone suddenly seems a little less attractive. If we had unlimited data here in Australia it wouldn't such an issue. I'd also hate to be driving in an area with no reception and have my GPS stop working.

Its great to see ISPs finally offering better deals, rather than increasing their prices as has been the trend over the last year or two.

TPG reps are claiming they'll soon be offering a 500gb plan for $80 per month.

However, for people like me who can only get ADSL2 from Telstra, its still same old plan I've been on for the last 3 years for now and into the foreseeable future.

They're so cheap in the US. Here in Australia they sell for $149.99 (about US$140), but managed to get one for $119.

They really are fantastic though, and have a good balance of hard work and fun! Wii Fit boxing is probably my favourite, made me really sore.

It was pretty easy to get a Wii Fit here in Australia when they came out..at least for the 1st day. A good tip is to go to one of the more expensive stores, and then have them price match..the expensive stores had lots of stock lol

Also recommend getting a rubber cover for the balance board, as the thing gets pretty dirty fast...its so darn white!
