Why do people need to post a bitter rant in order to say that they don't find a blog funny? Or that they are not coming back? Does anyone here know this guy from Adam? Or care? So he doesn't find FSJ funny? Okay, we'll try to cope somehow. DL will have to live with one less page view, oh my!

Sincerity and satire do not always go together but there is no reason why they can't go together. Beneath the satire of FSJ DL is actually trying to make a sincere point about US politics. It IS the sincerity that makes the satire any good in fact. If FSJ was just engaged in pissing on everyone and everything than it could still be funny and it might even still be good satire... and perhaps some of the best FSJ posts are just this. But DL isn't, I think, a writer that doesn't care about anything except page views, cheap laughs, and book sales. I think he really cares sometimes and the decision2008 posts reflect this sincerity. And at least some of the readers who post in the comments here also contribute sincere and intelligent commentary.

This isn't really a tech forum, but it attracts a lot of tech-savvy types. This isn't really a political forum but the US election is more important than it even usually has been... and DL/FSJ has strong convictions. FSJ is a vehicle through which the entertainment is delivered but I suspect that DL has sincere and passionate politic beliefs. This blog IS more than the sum of its parts and it is much more than a fake CEO satirical blog.

So maybe now I am reading too much between the lines but this blog/forum can be different things to different people.

So Gunny, I thank you for your sincere and intelligent response to my response to your response to my original post... But... I do come here for both the satire AND the intelligent commentary AND the sincere interest that DL slips in between the lines that FSJ writes. There is a time and a place for DailyKos, etc, but I'm comfortable here... It is still a free country, as the saying goes, is it not? I don't expect everyone to agree with what I write but I hope that occasionally some proportion of readers find something in it that reveals a different perspective from what they already have.

Uh... More than any other US president.... Hmm... I guess you are probably also including the presidents Washington, Adams, and Jefferson that allowed US ships to abduct and enslave Africans? Or presidents #4 through #16 that allowed slavery to continue for another 60 years after that? Even considering every other president since Lincoln, the US doesn't have a lot to self-congratulate about concerning Africa and GWB being the best of the US presidents in this regard is nothing particularly impressive... even if Bob Geldof says so. Or Bob Geldorf for that matter.

Hey Gunny, I get FSJ I think, and BTW Canada and the rest of the Western countries have precious little to show either with regards to Africa. I posted, I think, with a sincere perspective as a non-American on US politics that I thought people might find interesting... if it isn't interesting to you than skip down to the "I'd hit it" posts and feel superior to me. But Gunny, I think I read between the lines just fine, thank you.

What Americans decide in this 2008 election has ramifications to the rest of the world... including to Africa. More than I think most Americans appreciate. We watch from the outside but we don't get to vote. Just my $0.02. Canadian.

Hey FSJ,

As a Canadian it often seems like we have a front row seat to American political, environmental, and social problems... Probably no country in the world likes Americans as much as we do and yet we define our identity in opposition to those qualities in America that we don't share. Love/Hate is too strong a term but most Canadians have a, well, sense of some ambivalence towards the US at the best of times.

But this Democratic nomination process... Wow. When you say,

"I'm betting American people are better and smarter and a lot less bigoted than the Clintons give them credit for. I'm betting a lot of Americans feel really good about a dude who can travel to Africa and the rest of the world and reach out to them and respect them and earn their respect in return",

we are most definitely hoping that you are right. Looking in from the outside gives a lot of us non-Americans cause for hope... and for worry.

She sounds so cool... Seriously dude, someone needs to be asking some significant questions about what the thinking is with AppleTv and MacBook Air... Just wait till she looks into .Mac... everyone will need to wear a cup just to walk around the Apple Campus!

Be Zen about her Fake Steve... Instead of opposing her energy you need to channel it towards the negative people and situations that might upset you.

But keep her away from Jon Ive... unless it is his idea to make almost every new product look like a mac mini box (Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, AppleTV, etc) . Maybe a few knee-to-the-groins are needed to shake up the current product cycle malaise.

Hey Fake Roy, you definitely have a point, but... this IS a satire blog and you are in danger of reading too much into this point. Is Danial Lyons afraid of women? Fake Steve? Real Steve? The readers of this blog? Silicon Valley? Who knows. I certainly don't.

Besides, it is just as wrong (and a symptom of underlying misogyny) to feel a need to pull punches with powerful women. Given FSJ's attacks on Squirrel Boy, Beastmaster, MyLittlePony, etc, he does not save his attacks only for women. Besides, since you bring up Clinton and Obama (and why do you use Hillary's first name and Obama's last name?) shouldn't it be possible to dislike Clinton without disliking all women? Maybe FSJ and many others ARE judging candidates on merit and not on gender and/or skin colour.

So maybe your comments are a satire of gender issue political correctness and maybe this blog is a satire of gender politics and maybe my post is a satire of overly sensitive responses to people who need to demonstrate how sensitive they are... but can't we all just get along? Can't we here in this blog audience all agree that we are intelligent, compassionate, sensitive individuals and just have some fun? I'll try to lighten up if you will... bokay?
