Apple does things so much better than the rest of the field that it seems easy to stay with this platform, but I am very much enamored with Google right now, and I think my coverage of them reflects that. I want something light and fast and always connected. Maybe Apple solves that, and maybe they won't.

I tend to pay for quality, and always will, but I don't want to be taken for a ride.

Re: We Mac Fans Are In Tablet Rumors Reruns

Hey man, I was like totally writing about this rumor on my old IBM Selectric.

The Mac Tablet rumor has been around for a long time. For Emulex, a Paladin client, I have helped set up lists for them to highlight influential storage news reporters and analysts, storage bloggers, and most importantly, the company's partners. But so far, that isn't yet happening. If I don't know you, or have a relationship with you, how exactly is it "rational" for me (in an objectivist construct) to unselfishly make you happy? If by me being happy, you are happy, that is good. However, doing things that make me unhappy just to make you happy makes no sense. So - step one is for you to be happy if I'm happy. And step two is for you to get to know me, in which case we both have a selfish interest in making the other person happy.

Totally consistent with the Happiness Project.

Re: Like Convergence, Aggregation Apparently Is Better In Theory

(Dang - I had a longer response to you and hit Cancel instead of Post. Oops.)

The end of the year gives us all the chance to look back on what we have tried and what has been accomplished. I know that over time I may contradict myself, based on sheer volume and the time in which the content originated. I think it is clear that I do enjoy aggregation and lifestreaming services. The question is will other people see the value that I have? So far, it seems they are much more reticent to take the plunge, so these technologies will need to adapt in order to achieve wider adoption.

Re: Like Convergence, Aggregation Apparently Is Better In Theory

Thanks for the kudos on the analogy. Truth is that there is no one right answer. Convergence actually works great in the enterprise, but less great for consumers. Car and boat combos haven't been a commercial success, but it may make sense to converge different network storage protocols, for example, and I know companies are doing that.

Facebook converges personal stuff, but it is trending more toward data being entered there solely. Add your photos and videos in Facebook instead of from somewhere else, for example...

Re: Like Convergence, Aggregation Apparently Is Better In Theory

Keep in mind that Darren runs Cliqset. If you like aggregation (and I do), check them all out and see what you like. I have said previously that successful social networks need a good mix of technology, community and relevancy. Even if you get everything you want, you may not find who you need.

Re: Like Convergence, Aggregation Apparently Is Better In Theory

Darren, I don't know that I agree! (If that makes any sense)

I like aggregation. I have been using it for a long time, and it is a jumping off point for me to find good content. I think Cliqset is a great tool, and when Arktan improves, it too can be. FriendFeed has been incredibly useful for me, and when I do talk to social networking tools, aggregation is something that can always come up.

My issue is separating mainstream adoption from edge early adopter adoption. Want me on there? Sure. I'll be there. But my family prefers one network (Facebook) and not for all the aggregation either. They may post photos there or see the occasional video, but they are doing so from within the site, not from external sites pulling in.

Re: 10 Predictions for 2010 In the World of Tech

Twitter has shown me that they are growing up.
