At the bare minimum, I want to have respect and basic human empathy for any man I have sex with, regardless of whether I'll ever see him again. He and I share one thing at least: The imperative of human sexual contact. There's a simple beauty in this: We all have bodies, and this body is responding to mine, and mine to his. Maybe that represents a potential for a shared future, but more than likely it's just sparks in the dark. And what's wrong with that?

Recognizing that base commonality has often filled me with affection for my partner. We're brothers, if only for a very short time. So, if I feel nothing for him, that indicates I have come, not just with need, but with selfish desperation or lack of esteem, not just for myself, and other equally needy bodies, but for sexuality itself.

So, I have never regretted a single sexual episode in my life. Not one. Not an anonymous cock coming through a hole, not the two-week whirlwind sexfest I had with a Canadian punk I met on IRC. I had hoped we would become boyfriends, but that didn't happen. But hey, that's life.Why ruin good memories with unreasonable expectations?

Converse to this post, I can say honestly, the only regrets I have is that I haven't fucked more. I wish I had been less particular and more open. I wish I had taken more chances, more risks, if not with my body, then with my heart. I'm sure I would have had more fun and met more people and lived more life.

But will that sentiment ever get 95 likes in our still sex-phobic culture?

I lobbed an observation at Louis Gray the other week about the fact that mainstream tech bloggers throw out these observations, such as Twitter is not about your friends, and that sort of description sticks because you folks are supposed to know what you're talking about without really having done any research on how various groups and subgroups and cultures use Twitter.

For instance, the gay male community's use of Twitter is very much about our friends, and largely not about people we have actually met in meatspace. Sure, we broadcast and share links and information (and porn, ahem) but we also say good morning to each other. Seems also clear that hookups and meetups and tweetups take place, as they do for all sorts of ad-hoc twitter groups and communities.

I don't doubt that there are other micro-communities doing similar things.

The basic thrust of this post, that teens don't tweet, appears correct, but some of the underlying assumptions and tangents are untested and unproven.

I used to create these sorts of scenarios when I was a kid with Big Jim and Big Josh, both of whom wore plastic fuchsia bikinis and had biceps that really flexed!

Off the top of my head, The Mekons, a first-wave British punk band, recorded a two grand records in the mid-80s called Fear and Whiskey and Honky Tonkin, both obviously and unironically influenced by American country. Mekon leader Jon Langford later moved to Chicago and formed the Waco Brothers, labeled alt-country by some but it still sounds like roots rock/country played by punks, to me. Some of his Mekons buddies joined him later. The Godfathers, also British, always played a Cash cover during their encores. Again, off the top of my head. :-)

HS: this is interesting. Although I'm not deeply knowledgeable about punk, so was a bit surprised at the country connection (though perhaps more for US bands than UK bands?)

X was always country-influenced, as were quite a few great punk bands, back in the day. Social Distortion's cover of Ring of Fire, for instance, is about a billion times better than Adam Lambert's, probably because it admitted that you could not improve on the original. Some people get that.

Window OS, for the most part, has always been a series of riffs on, homages to, rip-offs of Mac OS. I don't think that fact would persuade anyone without a sense of history. Which excludes most American consumers.

I'm pleased that you found this review. One of the points I have tried to make in this blog through example is the importance, maybe the dominance, of desire in watching movies. I choose movies that personally illustrate this idea.

Things are going pretty well here. But as far as the indie scene, if there is one, I haven't found it. I've half mind to make it happen myself. ;-)

I've been to Salon Pureyrredon a couple times for punkish shows and I'm supposed to interview a fairly impressive girl band for the blog. hope that happens.

i'll get back to blogging here soon.
