i miss DQ food. the coburg location was always especially great for some reason. most DQ's out here don't have a full food menu, just hot dogs & chicken strips or something like that. some don't even have fries. most don't have hamburgers.

I have a friend who went to marriage counseling after a game of settlers. I told Lyndsay we could never play (and yes, we own it and the expansions... we just never play together).

We're currently rather fond of Pandemic. It's fun with two players (extremely difficult with 4 players, requiring absolute cooperation).

Lyndsay's current favorites: Ticket to Ride Europe, Lost Cities

I should mention, we own a lot of games.

nice! i've heard good things about it. davereed might have it, actually...

one of my (now) wife's first interactions with our (mine & davereed's) group of friends was a game of carcassonne. it was so cutthroat & conniving - borderline *evil* - that she almost never came back to hang out with us. at all. and rightly so!

i thank God Almighty for my wife's girl friends who like to play Settlers of Catan; otherwise we'd've probably never seen her again.

what if barbers charged by the minute? would it be any less sexist? doubtful. furthermore, i'd bet the women would pay even more (using your numbers, which are totally reasonable), given that it takes roughly twice as long to cut a woman's hair. it's a culture of victimization that says, "it's not fair to charge different prices for different work!" i would argue on behalf of the barber that requiring the same price for different labors isn't just unfair, it's stealing.

It's just my general purpose knot. It works well in sailing and camping, and can be tied with wet/cold hands or hands with gloves. It came up because she tied some ridiculous knot that was a real pain to untie with cold hands. I can tie it with mittens on, which makes it better than a lot of alternatives in many situations. I don't suppose mittens come up much in climbing, though.

that's hawt. you're rock climbing, right? going beyond the ol' figure eight? good man.

i was a climbing instructor for a while in high school and while i never taught the bowline (we weren't allowed to) i used it myself frequently. when asked about it, i always said it was an "advanced" knot and i'd teach them when they started lead climbing (an arbitrary milestone which few of them ever reached).
