Laptops, computers, and smartphones definitely need the reboot regularly. And for humans, it's called sleep or napping.

Re: Ring Floodlight Cam Review & Install Tips – An Easy & Smart Security Upgrade

Great that you were able to get the FLC's working with the new routers. Personally, I use the app to control the lights as my switch is hidden away in the garage. Personally, I would just label the switch (I have done that with other "smart" switches in my home) and then forget about it. (I actually put a clear plastic cover over the switches and labeled them - so they can be turned off, but not without some effort).

I haven't had to climb the ladder myself in the past year. Usually, if there is a power outage (manual or by nature), when the power comes back on, it will reconnected eventually with WiFi.

Re: Ring Floodlight Cam Review & Install Tips – An Easy & Smart Security Upgrade

@Jim Beam, Hmm, that's a tricky one. A couple of things come to mind. 1) what type of router do you have? 2) I think that the Ring FLC uses 2.4 GHz only so you need to be sure that is broadcasting 3) You might have a bad WiFi chip in the FLC - doubtful but maybe 4) you could have some wall interference going on - how is WiFi signal strength on your phone right by the Ring? 5) You could maybe test the Ring FLC's WiFi by creating a hotspot from your phone, just to eliminate that 6) reboot the Ring FLC via switching the circuit off at the circuit breaker

I totally get you when it comes to getting up on a ladder, while I do it, I like to avoid it! (I'm not so young myself, haha).

Thanks for the note and kind word! And good luck!

Re: How To Easily Change the iOS iTunes Backup Location to an External Hard Drive & Save Tons of Space

The process should be relatively the same. You should read through all of the steps. You will actively be starting with Step 3, but you will need to create a backup folder in Step 2 on your external hard drive. At the end of Step 1, I listed out the "default" location for iTunes backup so you can use that I believe. Good luck!

Re: DIY: How To Build Removable Cafe Lighting Posts that Attach to a Deck

Well, I would actually change the post materials to metal and then you would have to change the way you anchor them to the deck. With sunshade sails, you will need to be sure that if it is windy, the posts are sturdy enough. I used wood and those would snap right in half. So metal and a different way to mount.

Re: OneDrive Sync Issues? The ISP's router is probably doing DHCP already. And this is more of a personal preference, as I have multiple routers in my home, I just try to have only one DHCP and it is typically the main router plugged into my modem.

Re: Amplifying Your Mesh Network with AmpliFi HD WiFi Mesh Router – Review

That is pretty much what I did in my dad's house. Using the modem from the ISP with the WiFi disabled. But I also used a power line connection to put the AmpliFi router (in bridge mode) in a more centralized location (yeah, speeds were reduced slightly with power line) and then the two Amplifi satellites plugged downstairs.

One thing to remember, you will NEVER get the ISP speed in whatever setting you have. The only way to get as close as possible is to directly plug a laptop into the modem with Ethernet and have that as the only device running.

Re: How To Easily Change the iOS iTunes Backup Location to an External Hard Drive & Save Tons of Space

So, it sounds to me that you didn't have the symlink named "Backup" on your HD and that is why iTunes says it had never been backed up before and creates a new folder. If the process is done properly (and I realize it's tricky), you move your backup to the external drive, you then create a symlink on your internal drive that is called "Backup", and then iTunes should recognize it. You should be able to see a Backup folder (created by that Symlink process) on your internal HD and if you double-click on it, it should open your copied backup folder on your external drive.

Re: OneDrive Sync Issues? I don't know if by having it open, the process gets disrupted or not. But you may have to go through the undo process and try it again. Remember also, the path for the symlink has to be 100% accurate otherwise it won't work. Do you actually see the symlink folder? you should be able to. And, you should be able to double click it and it should open the location on your external hard drive.

Re: How to Remove Little Black Square Paragraph Formatting & Page Break in Microsoft Word

I'm so happy. And I don't quite understand what you mean by "having the backup on your iPhone" - your iPhone is the source for the backups. You backup on iTunes in case you need to restore your iPhone from a backup.
The process I outlined is:
1) Find the backup location on your Mac (internal)
2) Copy the existing backup to an external hard drive
3) Create the symlink to tell iTunes to look in the new (external) location
4) Confirm that iTunes now looks at the (external) location
5) Delete the old backups from your (internal) hard drive to save space.

Re: How To Easily Change the iOS iTunes Backup Location to an External Hard Drive & Save Tons of Space

Hmm, that is strange. Did you reboot? Sometimes the space takes some time to be reclaimed. If iTunes sees your backup on the external drive, that is a good sign.
Did you follow all of the steps I outlined? Are you running as administrator?

Re: OneDrive Sync Issues? You are deleting it the first time because it may be corrupted and then the OS will (hopefully) put a new one back that isn't corrupted. If that isn't working, you may have to try some of the other fixes.

Re: OneDrive Sync Issues?
