IMHO, Branstad was doomed from the start with a crowd like this. Their sole agenda is to advance their social policies, so nothing else (like jobs and a balanced budget) mean anything to them.

The man isn't Pat Robertson... Praise the Lord!!!

How soon people forget Branstad was Governor of Iowa for FOUR TERMS, the longest tenure of any Iowa Governor. Why? Because people liked him. He was in office during another time of economic crisis and he saw the state thru.

This is another fine example of how legislators waste taxpayer money, debating stupid bills. Add this to the debates over naming a town's US Post Office after a private individual. (just pass ONE bill, giving all municipalities the right to do this and stop wasting valuable time!)

Maybe the GOP is too bored to debate anything that concerns the average American. After possessing the monopoly on The Hill for so long they are unable to figure out anything constructive to do with their time.

King and Bachmann are quite the pair, aren't they? LOL! If any of their constituents ever took the time to listen to these two debate anything on C-SPAN, they would vote them out of office post haste. What an embarrassment!

It's an election year for Grassley and the last I read he has $4 million in his campaign war chest. Where do you suppose most of that money came from? He has been in tight with the insurance lobby forever, only this time the cost to his constituents is so much more. He shows his true colors when it comes to campaign donations, but this is true on both sides of the aisle. I sure wish the original purpose of these so-called representative we have in Congress was as intended...for We The People. In Washington money talks, not human decency.

It really upsets me that the GOP have dug their heels in and won't even try to work toward a bipartisan solution. They keep parroting the same old stale talking points over and over ad nauseam. It's like listening to parents who fight constantly. What's worse is they aren't being honest and using scare tactics to terrify the public into believing them!

Just as stated above: "rationing is already taking place under the current health care system." Medicare was rationing care when Obama's grandmother broke her hip. Their 'standards of care' state that a hip fracture is treated with hardware to put the hip back together, which is far inferior to the current gold standard of doing a total hip replacement. The cheaper 'patch job' often doesn't work, making the elderly go thru yet another surgery - the hip replacement. Everyday since the health care debate started there has been one tragic tale after another reported on the news about people who have been messed over royally by their insurance providers.

The part of the plan being presented that will have a drastic effect on me is the end of subsidies for Medicare Advantage Plans. The mere threat of losing funds has caused my premiums to skyrocket and co-pays to increase. (this is very hard on those of us who are on a fixed income) BUT if the Public Option is going to provide health care to the millions who are unemployed and without insurance due to this rotten recession (like my daughter), then I must look at my increased expenses as being beneficial to them. We are all going to be going thru changes that will hopefully be for the greater good. NOBODY should be denied health care!

Go ahead and "Rant" away as much as you like! I, like many, have fond memories of the days when Terry Branstad was our much beloved Governor of Iowa. Having been in office for FOUR terms should clearly tell you he was doing something right. And the lame reference to him as being a Liberal is at the least laughable. He might border on being a RINO, but for me this is his appeal.

At a time when BOTH national parties are behaving badly, a Centrist is exactly what we need to govern fairly for ALL. Case in point: The situation in Congress is absolutely pathetic with the sharp divisiveness between the Rep's and Dem's. With the inaction from our current Republican "Party of NO" they present themselves to be nothing more than badly behaved children, certainly not deserving of the title of Leaders.

Maybe if this nation had more RINO's and DINO's we'd finally see more beneficial legislation. Their history of nothing but constant bickering only serves to drive a wedge between the people, instead of uniting us for a common cause.

I didn't know where Lakemba was so I read about it on the Wiki site. Fascinating, yet somehow unsettling. This is immigration run amok, when the host country is evolving into the minority... exactly what I fear is happening in the US. Don't get me wrong, I am not a xenophobe. Still, I don't feel that expecting assimilation into the host country is asking too much. When I read a Canadian poster saying there were traffic signs where she lives written in Hindi, I was shocked. This is going too far. Maybe I'm just getting older and long for things to be in 'the good ole days.'

You 'were' naive? If you are blaming the liberals for the acts of terrorism by Muslim extremists, then you still are naive. 9/11 happened on bush's watch and they had warnings before this happened that were ignored. And just so I won't be viewed a too liberal, I have to say I am very disturbed by what I see as the loosening of security along our Southern border under the current administration.

The 'mess' in this country is a direct result of radical extremism from BOTH the Right AND the Left. Neither end of the spectrum is willing to search for common ground with harmony. The same is true of radical Muslims. The end result is equally toxic.

Is anyone truly trying to force their religion on you? Sure, the radical Jihads want the infidels to convert or be killed. In a way it reminds me of presumptuous Catholic and Protestant missionaries who trek off to the jungles to convert the heathen savages. It seems everyone lives by the creed: "it's my way or the highway."

Neither extreme of any debate has the capacity for compromise.

Radical extremism of ANY KIND, religious and/or political, should not be tolerated in our culture. This includes the Far Right Evangelicals AND the Far Left. The Far Right wants to force their ways on the rest of us, making them an "menacing political cult of lies and double standards."

It's these ideological extremes that have caused the horrible decay of our government. Nothing ever gets accomplished for the good of the people because the parties absolutely refuse to work with each other.

I am a Christian centrist, but I at least have the capacity of tolerance and acceptance toward those with views different from mine. I have worked with very nice people who are Muslim. Only a few of them are radicals.

ATTENTION: NEW READERS (fall of 2009)

I found this article with Google after a friend (who rarely checks the validity of these mailings) sent me this same chain letter today. I took the time to look it up and read what was said about its origins AND the added links provided.

This is more than I can say for many of the comments from some of the fools written below, like: "He should be the Prime Minister of Great Britain!!!"

How could they come to a site called Hoax Slayer and not have the sense to READ and figure out this 'article' was NOT written by Prime Minister Howard?! It clearly says, "Status: Contains elements of truth, but is highly misleading and inaccurate." Still they proceed to write praises to PM Howard??? HE DID NOT SAY OR WRITE THIS!

If they'd taken the time to read the entire article, they would have read the part that clearly says this email chain letter was written by a man from Georgia who wrote an op-ed article for a newspaper, written in the days after the events of 9/11: "by Barry Loudermilk, a US Air Force veteran and columnist for a local newspaper..." There are links in the paragraph above about Barry where you can read his original writing... highlighted link: ' intended for an American audience '

So this email originated from an American op-ed written in 2001. Since then it has been copied, edited, and twisted many different ways over the YEARS and is now making the rounds again (or should I say - still?). The case in Florida of a Muslim woman who insisted on wearing her veil for her driver's license photo was added to later versions. The latest comments on this particular hoax-slayer page started in fall of 2008, yet it is the #1 link that comes up on Google when I searched for- "Prime Minister Kevin Rudd + Islamic Sharia law."

I wonder how long this chain letter will continue making its debut around the world, LOL!

Even my diehard Rep father dropped McSame after this announcement. Personally I claim no allegiance to any party, so I can speak directly to the issues that concern me. IMHO Palin trumps the already abysmal ticket of McSame....a sickly, aging candidate that runs a high risk of leaving this country behind with Mrs. Know-nothing in charge?! That's about as frightening as it gets! I didn't think it would be possible to find anything worse than bush & co.
