the other great thing is it lets you try before you buy
and not have to commit to 18 months with a device.

many people are happy to have the same phoen for ever
but ProMob's change every 6 months
or at least I would like to test drive new phones every few months then give em back

i still use my N95 classic - though the 5800 is winning me over. until the N97 comes along

that 'purpose built' thing is utter PR bullshit.
there is no way on earth vodafone / verizon drove this project from the drawing board
but got signed up LATE on at pre production stage.

this product would of come to market with or without them

t mobiles 3G (in general) kicks O2 into next week.
O2 3g rarely kicks into 3.5G and mostly drops back to edge on iPhone and N95
and this is in central london

tmobile rocks it on 3.5G almost permantly

cool - i played with a dummy set while wait for my train in charing cross - and the hardware was the first thing RIM have ever made that made me want one. though im sure the software will not be rigth for me
plus i dont want to be a slave to my phone, like all the vacant blackberry gazers. ;)

theres no msn/yahoo on the uk version
the us version used sms to do those transports anyway
so way probably dependent on a tmobile usa sms<->messenger gateway thingy

use www.meebo.com - it rocks, and is optimised as a web app for iphone/android.

i think they are avoiding a g1 day rush - so its a quiteish launch
rather than have a giant pink countdown
so they only people getting a launch day email are those that have registered interest.

its a tricky one to review - esp. if he is a long time n95 8gig user
the n96 offers only a new (slimer more elegant, less bombproof) design - bigger memory and a less mature firmware.
it does have the killer application - iPlayer, with downloadable content (streaming on 3g via three) and i cant even do that on my mac desktop.
it handles mp3/video play back in hardware.
and the battery really isn't that bad.
I'm fed up with all the ignorant "its got no 3d chip" comments - apart from some hackware nothing
used it in anger so it makes no real difference. and it would seem no new nokias are going
down the 3d GPU route - though this may change.

for me its an evolution product - not the revolution the N95 was.
and in a few months its firmware will sort out 90% of the issues.
its biggest issue is the potentially more exciting products using 5th edition around the corner.
well realistically that's probably april next year. Touch N series with comes with music anyone?

having played a bit with an n85 last week - i would plump for the N96 over the N85 anyday
but imagine lots of people prefering the slimmer / smaller N85

not that i know of - theres a general scratch guard on the back anyway - you just rub off the little silver bit on the corner.
but its not over the camera.

hi - i know about debranding - as i did it with my t mobile N95. But my issue is with doing it on a brand new handset - that was bought sim free direct from nokia - its not locked/branded to any network.

so i SHOULD be getting updates - but its not. Also I want this blog to be a representative of a general user experience as possible. Though for that i really should have a network branded set - as thats what 90% of users will have.

yes the N70 keypad was for teeny fingers only and the [c] button required thumb disjointing.
I recycled mine just before getting the N96.

I will do some more photo samples once i get the v11 firmware - which lists autofocus as one of the fixes. at the moment its often producing blurry images. so best to wait for a true test. I hope operator variants due out tomorrow have v11 - as traditionally branded firmware comes out months later.

re-PIM I don't really use them much. I use iSync to copy across all my iCal/contacts. but dont rely on it as such. I have had issues with it crashing picking up imap email but again the firmware should fix that problem.

yes its not great - theres not even a slip case in teh packaging - or some screen protectors, or even a small cloth - all items that seem standard with alot of other manufacturers? HTC/apple for example.

AFAIK no n-gage games utilise the 3D chip so they perform similarly across all handsets.
