We wanted a name with 2 syllables (like Joel recommends in the article).

Buffer recently bought buffer.com and likewise we might buy loro.com at some point :)

At QuizUp we have "No Meeting Thursdays" (or "Fundarlausir Fimmtudagar" in Icelandic) :) Some teams have even added "No Meeting Tuesdays".

A lot of people love those days because it's so rewarding to be able to block out a big chunk of time to focus on the tasks at hand.

We ended up calling our company "Loro" (short for "Valoro") and got the domain name LoroMedia.com

Good article, Joel. We had been thinking about a name for our company for a long time and it was kind of holding us back (we couldn't work on certain things until we had picked a name). So we set a deadline for choosing a name and we picked Valoro Kreo because it translated to "value creation" which was relevant to what we wanted to help people with + it was available as .com ;)

But after reading this article and experiencing that people had a hard time remembering the name of our company, we are now working on renaming our company to something shorter (two syllables) and hopefully easier to remember.

So, thanks for the "push" - I think a shorter name will help us in many ways :)

Good article. A lot of interesting points. But regarding "Immediately, you would go for the person in the suit since they at the very least, look more professional and appear to take things seriously." - I don’t think that’s always the case. I usually wear jeans and a t-shirt at work and I totally take things seriously ;)

Já einmitt, eins og ég sagði "Þetta var náttúrulega allt öðruvísi fræði þá". Ég vil meina að SEO var alveg byrjað þá - maður var að gera ákveðna hluti til að láta vefsíður skila sér hærra í leitarniðurstöðum. En þetta er orðið allt annað skrímsli núna ;)

Já, sammála að það er upplagt að taka myndir af vinningshöfum. En stundum gleymist það, stundum er það ekki hægt (t.d. þegar vinningarnir eru sendir til viðkomandi, sem býr kannski ekki á höfuðborgarsvæðinu), einstaka aðilar vilja helst ekki láta taka mynd af sér o.s.frv.

En til gamans þá bendi ég á þetta fína albúm :)

Bandcamp offers musicians the option of including extra stuff (like PDFs and bonus tracks) when people buy a whole album.

Also, when I bought the Of Monsters and Men album on gogoyoko the last song/mp3 file had a few minutes of silence until a "hidden" song started playing.

Skemmtilegt - þótt þetta sé tiltölulega einföld grafík og kannski smá gölluð. Mér finnst 3. hlutinn svolítið skrítinn - það vantar að útskýra þetta betur, hvaða lífsstílshópar eru þetta, hversu margir eiga og hversu margir ætla að kaupa? En þetta er flott framtak og ég væri til í að sjá fleiri íslensk fyrirtæki búa til upplýsingagrafík/tölfræðigrafík.

I'm not sure if % of replies is a good indicator of whether a user is likely to get ReTweets or not. If I'm replying to someone it's likely that the majority of my followers won't see that message because they're not following that user (that I'm replying to). So that tweet is almost invisible to a lot of my followers - that's why I don't think replies have a lot of impact on whether my followers will ReTweet my tweetes.

Áhugavert að fræðast meira um þessa frægu síðu :) En smá varðandi leitarvélabestun og "enda var ekki búið að uppgötva þau vísindi þegar ég byrjaði" þá vil ég meina að það sé ekki alveg rétt. Ég man eftir að hafa verið að stúdera SEO árið 1997, til að komast ofar í AltaVista ;) Þetta var náttúrulega allt öðruvísi fræði þá, en samt smá að byrja...
