Using BackType (or BackTweets) you quickly see that most (re)tweets for blog posts just contain a post title and shortened URL. GigaOM recently did something interesting where they only display tweets containing a special hashtag that's assigned to each post. It's a nice way to separate the links and RTs from actual commentary.

Re: App Development Request: The Web’s Opinion About One Topic

Thanks for the feedback, Corvida. We're looking into working with third party comment systems like Disqus now.

Sorry for the late response

Re: All Your Comments Are Belong to Us

Love to hear that you're making use of our plugin, despite not being able to display comments in Disqus. I think you can actually get Disqus to show our comments by importing or sync-ing with WP comments, but unfortunately it doesn't do that automatically.

Generally, I don't think you, as a publisher, can stop comments from fragmenting to other services. At BackType, we're hoping to give both bloggers and comment authors the tools to find, follow and share conversations irrespective of where they take place.

Re: Reactions Now Available In The Comments

Our BackType Connect plugin is intended to serve the people that aren't using Disqus - we aren't a competing comment system, we enhance the native Wordpress comment system. So we don't really compete with Disqus; in fact, we're constantly looking for ways to work with them. What problems have you experienced with "matching" on BackType?

Regarding reach: we're working hard to improve the number of properties we support; currently, we support hundreds of thousands of properties and index over a million comments every day. We're definitely going to continue improving that. In fact, over the next year we're going to be addressing all the problems you brought up.

What specific applications are you interested in -- as a blogger, comment author, or both?

The main uses for BackType are 1) claiming and sharing comments and 2) monitoring keywords (alerts), comment threads (subscriptions) and content (connect and backtweets.com), none of which really require a lot of context.

Re: Gathering The Pulse Of Your Blog Around The Internet With Disqus | (jeff)isageek.net

Thanks, Jeff. You can see ours running on that blog post.

Re: Announcing BackType Connect

Thanks for your comment. Micro-M&A deals are just glorified hiring bonuses. It follows that investors, in my opinion, should focus on platforms (markets) as they both create and capture the most value. Nevertheless, developing "skins" to help us understand the overwhelming amount of data available on the open web is still a noble cause. I just think it becomes much more meaningful at a larger scale than the word "skin" suggests.

Re: The Blogroll I Want For AVC

We just created a widget for this:
http://www.backtype.com/widgets

It looks like all our other widgets, but is customizable via CSS.

Re: The Blogroll I Want For AVC

Thanks, Joe. This is very cool. It's also something we could make available very easily via our API (by username or URL). On user profiles, we show a "blogroll" based on where a user comments (limited to 50 or so blogs). For example:

http://www.backtype.com/fredwilson

We'll make a widget right now that shows up to X blogs sorted by activity. Fred, is that something you'd be interested in?

Update: The widget is available @ http://www.backtype.com/widgets

Re: Now Supporting FriendFeed

Relaying my response from FriendFeed so readers here will see it:

"We pick up comments from FF within seconds usually; however, we had to implement a small deficiency in the interest of quality -- for certain types of FF entries, we ignore the first comment (as it is usually generated by the entry itself, or a quotation).
