Did they ever give you a reason for taking her away from you? I can't even imagine how hard that was, and you are so brave to talk about it like this. I think I'd break down every time I even thought about it. *hug*

Re: The Countdown Begins

Yes, she was removed from me, placed in foster care and then in her final adoptive home. During the time between our home and her adoptive home she went from a developemental age of almost two years old to a functioning level of six months. Yet the agency said removing her from my home caused "no disruptive harm to the child." She stopped crawling, stopped signing and speaking..stopped feeding herself. She also developed a number of fears. Yet there was no negative effect to her removal, in their formal opinion. Great agency, heh?

Re: The Countdown Begins

I was under the impression she'd gone back to her birth parents. I try to avoid those "are you a feminist?" conversations because I break out in hives. ;) I am 'one of those feminists' that doesn't shave or wear heels or make-up and questions the reasons behind doing those things, but it certainly isn't a prerequisite of being a feminist! :P

Re: Getting Off: A Woman’s Guide to Masturbation

graham crackers and Corn Flakes, food items that people eat to curb hunger, which in fact invented to curb masturbation

My goodness, really? I do agree with them on one thing though - nobody should buy animals from a pet shop. Get them from a rescue or a reputable breeder, but not a pet shops. No reputable breeder will sell to a pet shop, so the animals found in the shops have dubious heritage and the new owner will have no idea about potential illnesses etc. It undoes all the good work done by private breeders who breed for the love of the animal, to improve the health and temperament of the species as a whole, rather than seeing them as an easy way to make money.

Re: Question of the Day

I scrubbed the kitchen floor. Well, two-thirds of it. I stopped after that to let it dry so I wouldn't get wet knees while scrubbing the remaining third. And then I sort of wandered off and forgot about it. Still, it's interesting to see what colour my kitchen floor is supposed to be. ;oP

Re: Question of the Day

I can't believe I'm about to admit this but here goes. ;o)

My boyfriend lives in Norway and I live in the UK. The first time he came to visit me he was really excited about getting Indian takeaway because there are none near where he lives. So we sit on the living room floor surrounded by curries, rice, bhajis and naan breads, revelling in the fact that we are finally conversing face to face.

I can't even remember what happened to make us laugh so hard, but we did, and as I snorted with laughter, my nose suddenly streamed thick, goopy snot from one nostril. Tons of the stuff - seriously, it was like turning on a tap. Of course, he is now unable to breathe through laughter, rolling on the floor. I'm trying to stop laughing, snot is going in my rice and it just won't stop coming and I'm bright red with embarrassment and laughing so hard. It took a good ten minutes to calm down enough to clean up.

Needless to say he's never let me live it down. But we're two years on now and he's coming to live here in October, so it didn't do his opinion of me any harm! ;oP

Re: Cheerio, Mate!

You'd make a great Brit. ;oP

Re: Quote of the Day

For the person who wanted citations on the non-wearing of bras preventing sagging... and everyone else who went on the defensive for that matter: http://www.brafree.org/

"Healthy breasts don't need "support." Noses don't, either. Or ears. Or arms. If you put your left arm in a sling for six weeks, on the first morning of the seventh week, you'd need "support" for that arm, because it would have lost all muscle tone.

Breasts need to move. To jiggle. If yours are being slammed around during vigorous exercise, causing pain, then you need to wait until your breasts have recovered from years of bra-wearing before you can go completely bra free during strenuous exercise. Just as pubescent teen girls' breasts were "trained" in training bras, to need support, yours can be trained to no longer need support.

Some women who throw their bras away find that they have increased breast pain for a few days. This is most common among women with larger breasts. Give your breasts time to adjust to being bra free.

You have ligaments in your breasts. They are designed to hold your breasts up. If you wear a bra for years—or, worse yet, wear a bra 24 hours a day for years—these ligaments will atrophy (get weaker and smaller)."

Re: Pondering what’s harder…

I wrote a whole post about this over at Mothers for Women's Lib.

Re: Quote of the Day

Not only are they uncomfortable, they're terribly unhealthy for your breasts and make them *more* likely to sag, not less.
