The only thing wrong is that I can't upgrade the software over the air. The key difference between mine and Matt's is that mine was purchased in Hong Kong rather than the European model.

Europe seemd to get hit hard on this model with the defective earphone/mouthpiece and software problems.

Re: All day, and all of the night ... - Travel tips and inspiration - British Airways High Life

Hong Kong needs a nomination as well

Re: What was your best phone ever? I think its more polished than other phones I've used and it does the basic PIM stuff better but it isn't the head and shoulders above everyone else like you'd believe what you read. Really unimpressed by the lacquer finish of the phone, its not very tactile.

Re: The great game

This is all a bit tedious, I remember a similar debate when PA Consulting used to do PR for Compaq. PR always has had to duke things out with other disciplines and agencies. Often it hasn't done it particularly well and as Robin alludes to there is a marketing singularity coming.

Ultimately the people who will win will be the people most trusted by the client. Will PR die, I doubt it, will PR agencies die - some undoubtedly will (most likely a slow lingering death due to the low barriers to entry), the smartest have already started evolving.

Re: Something new, really soon.

Welcome back ^_^

Re: Something new, really soon.

I'm guessing that Whatleydude Dan Lane and Ben ride again?

Re: Who owns social media?

The smartest guys in the room with the best ideas and the client's trust. Symantec's Norton offerings were doing things at a very low level on my system in a way that made me nervous and suspicious. I can also recommend Intego's Net Barrier: it is amazing the amount of attacks it stops on the likes of my cell carriers 3G network and the corporate networks of clients when I jack in.

Re: YHOO - a contrarian view

Hi Fred,

On the one hand I agree with the naysayers as these departures are a big wrench, pretty much all the people mentioned bleed 'purple' - it is quite literally a culture shock. But from a business point of view I agree with you. many of the ideas and the energy that these people brought arent moving the needle fast enough. And with the changes at the top it gives the opportunity to other people to show their mettle and get on.

Butterfield, Horowitz, Fake and Schachter all made valuable contributions, but they are what Bob Cringely would have called first wave people, Yahoo! is a large corporate not a start up and needs the mix of the first wave vision but also solid execution and the people to make that happen.

I would go further and say that more people should be encouraged to leave to reinvigorate the business.

Re: What international calling service do you use?

It's a working break Ged. The applications have become bloatware and user experience is very unintuitive. I find that it feels oppressive to keep my Facebook profile up to date and keep up to speed with the culled list of groups that I still belong to. So have been 'piping' in content from my flickr stream, del.icio.us, Twitter and my blog. I have tweeked the settings to minimise annoying mails and have been generally tardy in checking on to the site. If people want to get hold of me I ask them to mail me or Twitter me.

Products like Twitter, del.icio.us and flickr have a purity of purpose that Facebook lacks.

Re: Tough Times Ahead For The Web?

I think that you are one the money, we are also due a cyclical downturn on online advertising rates based on those changes which is going to hit all those 'triple A' businesses (arrogance, AJAX, Adsense) partly driven by economic uncertainty and the fad-driven nature of marketing.
