Well said. In the year and a half I've been blogging, I've made some amazing online friendships -- some of them I've met in person, some I haven't.

I guess I've shed the caution of meeting people online that my parents taught me as a child. One thing that has changed since the mid-90's is that, now, people tend to go by their real names whereas it was common to never know someone's real name when conversing with them online during my younger days -- I think that change is the driving force behind trusting those you meet online.

David and I just spent a couple minutes playing around with this application on David's iPhone (I guess I'm still behind the times having a non web-enabled phone) -- though this is not a Zillow sponsored application, it is impressive nonetheless! We particularly liked the "hide chart" functionality.

There are a couple minor changes that will need to be made to comply with our terms of use and branding requirements, but it's pretty impressive what the developer (I believe his name is Auston) has done with the Zillow API.

I personally don't think there is going to be anything, microfinance included, not impacted by the global economic crisis. Access to capital is tight and consumers are weary of spending money -- which leads me to believe microfinance funding from both capital markets and from sources such as Kiva/Microplace is going to become harder to come by.

My apologies for being an avid reader, yet infrequent commentor. But I'll throw out a suggestion -- I'd love to see a microfinance project be added to the list.

My best friend works for Esperanza International down in the Dominican Republic and Haiti doing microfinance work and, especially after seeing the impact in person last year, I believe access to credit is vital component of the fight to eradicating this world of poverty. I'm going to visit her again in a few weeks and to do some volunteer work down there (including pouring some concrete floors).

I think the disques/facebook partnership is a great one for both companies and will go a long way to merging online identities into one. If everything works out, I can certainly see facebook purchasing disqus.

Hey Dave-
We met back at blog business summit in 2006 I believe. Anyway, I honestly don't know how people keep up with, yet alone utilize, more than about 4 social networks. I get quite a few invites as well, and pretty much ignore all of them unless it comes from a VERY good friend. I just don't have time to deal with all these random social networks. The only ones I use regularly are facebook and mybloglog, and sometimes I log onto twitter. I haven't logged in to myspace for over 3 months -- though this comment just made me think I should go check to see if anyone not on facebook is trying to get ahold of me. Good topic of conversation.

Well said Fred -- very good advice. I know the feeling of trying to get through a phone call all too well. I try to stay engaged on phone calls, but with the seemingly unlimited interruptions via twitter, facebook, and blogs -- and my inbox constantly blowing up right in front of me -- it's difficult sometimes.

I'm definitely not advocating not using Facebook to increase your social capital. I do it, and think it's smart for others to do so as well. What led me to write this is that many re pros are going about it all wrong. Do the ones who "friend" me get any value out of doing so (other than having me be one more person in their "network")? Do I get any value from them being my friend? I think the answer to both is no, unless they (or I) take the time to get to know the other person. Without that step, i don't know the 1st thing about them - so of course I'd never send business their way.
