An example of large sites outranking small ones.
Forbes and Hubspot.
These websites veer off topic a lot, and they both crush the small sites that specialize in what the big sites can rank for quickly, even it those things are not their main focus. It's wrong. Can their be a fix for that?

Re: 20 Years Covering The Search Industry

Congrats, Barry. And she's right.

It seems like every recipe website I checked out in the last couple of weeks provides a horrible consumer experience. The number of pop-ups and videos displayed on their pages is ridiculous. It's aggravating.

I'm wondering if any of them finally got hit with penalties for horrible user experiences. So true.
Too many people read articles on "how to make money as an affilate" (one example) and think they can buy a domain, write content and people will magically visit their website and buy stuff. Good luck with that.
And it's not because some of the folks starting out aren't smart or talented.
It's because hundreds of thousands of websites are going up every day! It's math, maaaan!
Shoot-I have somewhat of a brand, fairly decent traffic on my 15+ year old website, and I can't make squat on affiliate links, let alone ads.
That said, if you're a beginner, go ahead; start a blog.
But you better find a way to differentiate yourself if you want to have any chance of monetizing.
And as Mark said in his post, any money you do make will come to you indirectly...not from affiliate links and ads.

The Franchise King®
Joel Libava

Re: Demi Lovato Says Capitol Riots Inspired Her New Music:

thanks https://t.co/mgiG6lDt3c?zae3

Re: On imaginait Trump mauvais perdant, mais pas à ce point!

thank you very much

Re: How This Educational Enrichment Franchise Rose To Meet The Challenge of Covid

Your team has done an amazing job helping your franchisees! And I agree with you about the need to ask for a link from a publication that quotes you. Quick story...
A couple of years ago, an independent writer for a publication in my space (franchising-as you know), called me a couple of times a year for my take on a specific topic he was writing about.
Now, the information he wanted from me required some work on my part. In order to properly address the thing he was writing about, I had to do a bit of research etc. This research and the info I would provide him usually took about 45 minutes or so to put together. But hey-it's publicity, right? Nothing wrong with that...and to get some added cred? Sure. However...
The editor at this (online and offline) publication either didn't understand SEO and the benefit of linking out to credible sources, or did, and was just plain selfish. Pass on that sh%t. And I never got a link in the past articles that included me as a trusted source.
Anyway, I finally confronted the writer, and told him in not very gentle terms that unless I got a link back to my award-winning website/blog for the expertise I provided, I was done.
Guess what?
The next time he called me I told him no.
He tried again a few months later. Again, I said no.
Why?
Because I refuse to be taken advantage of. Especially when I care about my industry so much, and I put in the time and effort to make sure the information I provide is correct and top-notch.
Thanks for the reminder Gini.
Now please excuse me while I grab my blood-pressure cuff. Because I'm aggravated again just thinking about this B.S.

The Franchise King®, Joel Libava

Re: Urgent Request To Protect the Franchise Business Model

Catherine, I don't buy it. The Democratic plaform states that "We will hold executives personally accountable if they interfere in workers’ efforts to organize." Notice that it's "workers" they're focused on. Employees. Not franchisees. And since it feels like the "franchisees are not employees" legal issue has been solved, it's a non-issue. My bigger problem is your "support" of Loeffler and Perdue. From "The week" website: "On January 24, there was a private all-Senate briefing about the looming disaster — long before there was a broad public understanding that the U.S. was going to get slammed by COVID-19. Immediately afterward, both Loeffler and Perdue started trading strategic stocks. As The Daily Beast reported at the time, Loeffler executed 29 transactions valued between $1.275 and $3.1 million in the following days before the market crashed, almost all of them sales — one exception was a purchase of Citrix, which sells teleworking software. (Also, Loeffler recently violated the legal prohibition on soliciting campaign funds in a Senate office building.) And as an added bonus, according the the same article, "Perdue made a similar number of trades, but bought more than Loeffler — in particular, an investment of up to $850,000 in DuPont, which manufactures personal protective equipment." Fantastic. 275,000 dead Amercians, with most people dying because of the lack of leadership and the lies and conspiracy theories spread by a Republican President and his cronies-and you are encouraging IFA members to vote for grifters like these two? Shame on you. And the IFA has contributed the maximum allowed by law to both of them? In my opinion, the IFA is on the wrong side of history. Nothing new there. Finally, I'm proud to not be a member of your club. Your words matter. Heck, all of our words matter. I see Scott Monty doing this, too. Sharing his feeling about current events that are shaping the conversations we are having at this critical moment in our democracy. Do Black Lives Matter? Absolutely. I share my feelings publicly too, although I do it in a more "Trump is a dangerous man and needs to go" kind of way. Recently, one of my high school buddies, a good guy, told me in a comment on FB that "all I do is post political stuff' - and that "I should be a politician and run for office." I'm not interested in that. I AM interested in making sure everyone knows what Trump and Barr are doing to our democracy. I feel it's super-important, Rand. The focus of your post is too, obviously. Will you, Scott and I lose potential clients because of our very public opinions on big stuff? Probably. I don't care. I've always only wanted to work with people who are like me.
