I am not sure we do as a website. We like their products -- kinda, I know plenty of people who have used them and feel let down -- but when I read their website I am still as skeptical as with any large corporation's website.

I still think you should weigh at the end of shopping when using the handheld.

Actually the one's at Ralph's market in Downtown LA were fast and never gave me any problems. I think supermakrets insist on them to cut down on personnel costs. Because as annoying as they are, we still end up back behind them.

Of the two external placers that impressed me, one was indeed a former
Software Engineer. He was unable to place me because, well, I am a
difficult to place guy in a world of defined job specs and pliable
personalities. But he knew what I was talking about.

Chris, that 'Is it broken?' connotation of the gesture is exactly why I think the device should not be designed such that you get to be seen holding it to your ear with strap and all. Who wants to be seen constantly checking whether their expensive tech is broken or not?

iLounge is just not known for the crappiest reporting, you know, and the thing is, I would not be surprised if Apple did it (or perhaps I have been in mobile too long). I am still bummed by the rest of the review, though. Beeps? It's so 1993. I haven't found a person who has seen the thing and liked it.

Skydeck scrapes your billing account on the operator's website -- you have to give them username & password for that -- and also has a sync client for installation on your BlackBerry or Android phone. I presume a Symbian sync client will follow when they leave North America, and possibly a Pre client soon.

Seems like it would impede muscle-memory built up, but I have to say I have not installed the beta because f reasons above, and because beig able to test on production browsers is my current livelyhood.

I don't even know where to install it. I have an OS X machine and an XP laptop. The XP Laptop cannot be downgraded, and I am not sure I can get a Win2K installation for the OS X virtual machine I am using anywhere.

I have been thinking about this more. No, there are no foldable screens, you always get a bezel, no matter how thin because of the hinge. The fold-out keyboard is exactly what I had in mind for tiny handhelds, and is great to pull out during a meeting or on the road when sudden;y a lot of typing is required, but you are still saddled with a tiny screen afterwards when real work has to be done. Traveling with an extra, rigid, durably packed, pretty light screen might seem strange, but then there were all these roadwarriors lugging whole projectors not too many years ago.

Another +1. I can't think of a more obvious service to be an OpenID relying party. Minimizing the work needed for a commenter to post non-anonymously seems like a win for everyone, including yourselves: once someone with no previous interest in Disqus comments using their OpenID a couple of times, they accidentally and frictionlessly create something of value on Disqus - their aggregated comments - that they may build on in the future.

Call me when it actually runs outside of Windows then. I really do like the process separation and am waiting for it, but I do not use my Windows machine often.

As for how to manage web applications, this is a good start, but it may not be enough. I think it may be necessary for the browser to become smart enough to notice that a page on a tab has spawned multiple windows and that thus these windows+tab are essentially an app that should be registered with the Windowing shell with its own group and icon, yes, if that is even possible, or that avenues need to be explored. What I know now is that my browser has become very hard to manage because it is being used as an application platform. Chrome was explictly created to be the best application platform for web-apps. Well, it needs a little rethinking then, to find out what works better.

It will run on Mac and Linux in the near future.
You can also create "Application Shortcuts" for your app, say Gmail, that will place an icon on your desktop and open the app in a new, dedicated window.
Or do you want a single window, and multiple tabs in the Start bar (XP)???

Actually, it isn't. First of all it only rund on Windows, and second, it still is hard to manage since the window entries get grouped together on Windows, and all have the same icon. It's still hard to manage.

Count me in on requesting this as well. The whole point of having Disqus on my site to manage comments is so my visitors can do everything from my site. Please give us the clickpass/facebook/lj/etc menu.
If it's that hard to implement and isn't a priority let us know so those of us who want it can figure out an alternative.

I have to admit I have only written J2ME apps for prototyping. Could you tell us some more about strategies to deal with heap fragmentation, since J2ME gives no insight into the managed memory?
