PC - Attorney Style

I will agree that some Mac's cost more than your "average" PC, but if you compare the Mac you are purchasing to the PC in terms of hardware specs they are comparable and if you include the software which comes free with the Mac it is actually cheaper.

This ignores the next main selling point of a Mac which is resale value and the product life of a Mac. Most Macs last over 5-8 years whereas most PC's are replaced within this period.

Re: Multiple Monitors in the Law Office and Increased Productivity

I think 4 arranged in the 2X2 pattern would work fine. Maybe even 6 in a 3 (wide) X2 (tall). Beyond that, I think it would lose its efficiency. Although at that point, your probably just as well off to use a 42" or 46" HD television as your monitor.

Re: Multiple Monitors in the Law Office and Increased Productivity

It's a real personal preference on where your monitors are located. For me, when I had a laptop screen as one of my monitors, I couldn't have it anywhere but to the left of my main screen. I've seen others the opposite.

The real question this article brings to mind though is whether TOO MANY monitors is a hinderance. I certainly don't think three is too much, nor would four (2x2), but I think anything more than four would be too distracting.

What say you?

Re: GTD For Legal: Capturing and Transforming “Stuff” into Next Action Items

Thanks David. I've tried to use OmniFocus but couldn't "get the hang of it" for some reason. I'd love to see how you utilize it in your practice. I think far too often we recommend programs but don't show others how we practically apply them to how we are using them in our every day law environment.

Re: Macspeech Dictate Review

Many thanks for this, looks like i have 1.3 build 4253, when check for
updates i'm told that i have the latest ??

shall see if i can get 1.5 download

regards
nigelp
Member of

Commercial Pilot Consultancy Network
A none profit organisation dedicated to
Promoting a healthier working relationship
Between Employer & Pilot in command

Re: Macspeech Dictate Review

The most recent update to 1.5 is a complete update to the speech recognition engine for MacSpeech Dictate. I spoke with them late last week and it is in the mail. As soon as we have had a chance to review the product we'll update with a new review. It looks to be an exciting addition especially with how well the regular version works.

Re: MacSparky’s Presentation Mojo

No problem at all, if you'd like to see the edits to the post I have
already made them. I have added links to the individual Online
Streaming and DVD versions as well as a link to Mr. Reynolds' blog. Is
there anything in the video which is not in the book? We already have transcription pedals, think they'll work with the software or do you need special pedals?
hp

Re: JMDictate - iPhone Dictation

Hans,

As for the scheme - It's not meant to be that way. The new version of Safari is rendering my page funny. I'm working on figuring out why. If you open it in Firefox it should look right.

The transcription software is by Olympus... using Quicktime WOULD be very cumbersome. The best and most affordable I've found is the Olympus USB foot pedal (look up the AS-2400) and the software that comes with it (transcription software for the pedal). It's only ~$150 and is well worth it. You can get it in both PC and Mac versions here: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=147588-...

Re: Kindle DX - The Lawyer’s Kindle?

Have I told you lately that I love you?

*****************
GRACE SUAREZ
gracesuarez@mac.com
www.gracesuarez.com

Re: Kindle DX - The Lawyer’s Kindle?

There is a way to test it before buying it. There was an issue with a certain batch of the installation CD's. Call customer service and describe your problem, they will mail you a new CD which corrects the problem.

Here is the MacSpeech article addressing the issue:
http://www.macspeech.com/article_info.php?artic...
