Let me start by saying that I came across Chris' post on Facebook, and since I checked it out in the evening when I had nothing much else going on, it was a good time for me to see what it was all about. (On a short side note: I'm a casual blogger who has realized that social media hasn't been the magic bullet to an easy traffic that it sometimes seems it can be, so, I'm equally curious about both the social media aspects of this as well as the actual film itself.)

Also, I'm writing this a few days after watching the film, so, please know that it did stick in my mind for some reason. :) Anyway, I think that the tricky thing about promoting this film is the necessary "no spoiler alert"....you really do have to watch the whole film to get the true effect. Maybe play more on the unexpected ending part....I was curious about "where's he going with this" and "how's this going to end?". Yet I see, too, that for those not interested in the "issue" per se, they might not come away appreciating time spent on a topic that wouldn't have interested them from the get-go.) This is more than a love story. After the fact, it's interesting how the ending can seem predictable even though it was surprising at the time. I liked the trailer, I thought it was an accurate representation of the film.

Instead of this movie being viewed as just "entertainment", it would be great to have a post-viewing discussion group about it.

The "reality" aspects of this film are particularly intriguing. I think this work is a great "business card" and I would definitely recommend Ray to anyone looking for a filmmaker...I don't have to love the topic he covered to see he can do good work. My only suggestion would be to maybe edit it down some...curious thing, though, whenever I fast forwarded a bit, I'd always have to rewind to catch up on what I missed.

Hope these comments help a bit. Sorry that I don't have an appropriate network to recommend it to. It seems that the only filmmakers I know are in the same boat as Ray, trying to get noticed, too. Best of luck to you, Ray, and to all struggling artists. (And definitely keep us posted on any new work you have coming out, Ray.)

Re: Pepsi, are you listening?

The point they missed in their reply isn't that they need more content creators in the 'room', but that the room should be open to any contributors.
Fear of legal problems is the least of their worries.

Re: Pepsi, are you listening?

I noticed that about the room, too. I already unjoined the room for that reason and also because it was kind of boring. I'm a Diet Anything fan who's trying to quit, so maybe I'm not their target audience anymore anyway. Either way, for them to promise to add more 'open' features later kind of takes the wind out of the sails of their re-launch anyway, at least for me it did.

Re: Holding Out Hope for a Self-Policing Web

I wish all people felt that ethical behavior is it's own reward. I think some people draw the line in different places though. For some people, just making the sale is a bigger driver than being upfront and honest. Yet I also believe there is a broad spectrum of standards, awareness levels, focus, biases, and intents in our society....not all bad or evil, some even unintentional and innocent. I'm not as concerned about someone trying to control everything, but I'm more concerned about the waters being muddied up in a way that people can't distinguish good from bad/biased/incomplete information.

Thanks for clarifying the book authors...I can see how I wrote it in a way that was unclear...I'll use my clarifying comma sections better next time. :)

Re: Is All Marketing Deceitful & Propaganda?

Unfortunately a lot of marketers still don't believe that it's in a consumers best interest to be informed to the fullest as you suggest. Why? Because they're selling inferior or crappy products/services. It's hard to market crap in a box.

Re: Is All Marketing Deceitful & Propaganda?

Thanks for the honest conversation about this timely issue. Integrity in marketing seems to have become an issue that is not so much about "all-or-nothing" but instead one of degrees and extents. To be most effective in communicating a message or good information or solving a problem, I think we need to provide full disclosure and be as objective as possible (or at least be upfront about our biases). Wouldn't that be the best way to help consumers make informed decisions which is the reason they are probably going to the internet to begin with? I think we can be entertaining without being deceptive. Since you both agree, too, that there is a lower b.s. factor in social media and internet news, maybe social media marketers should be the ones to set the standard for not mucking that up any further by engaging in disingenuous marketing practices. Agree?

Re: drew olanoff dot com. - Give me Quality or Give me Death

Glad to hear someone talking about quality. 'Overposting' certainly isn't the best strategy for all bloggers. I prefer thoughtful content myself. I agree that regular quality content will definitely yield quality readership as well. Thanks for writing about this.

Re: Global Green Expo 2008 Review: Part 2

Thanks! It was a well done event. Simple, yet highly effective.

My first change is using a ceramic mug (which was already sitting on my desk unused for quite a while anyway), instead of the daily styrofoam cup, for my morning tea at work. The minor inconvenience of cleaning out my own cup is truly a minor inconvenience...keeping 250 styrofoam cups a year out of a landfill...those little changes really do add up....

Re: A New "Social" Era

Shel, Thanks for your great comment!

Glad you liked the article and found the links within it useful. And, I wanted an orange one.

However, when I bought mine, they only had white in stock. (Since the first store I went to was out of stock, I decided to go with white. ) Now I like white best!
