Sounds interesting, Chris. You said, "So, if you want a copy, here’s a link:" but then I didn't see any link.

One thing you could do is make your current template the default and then delete the "old" default template. Never shall it display again!

@Chris: Your concept of putting the most important thing up front is drilled into your head on the first day of journalism school. It's actually referred to as the "inverted pyramid" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverted_pyramid
@Whitney: Actually, I believe what Chris is describing is the OPPOSITE of "burying the lead."

in Tags Are Your New Website on Chris Brogan
For once I disagree with you, Chris!
"Tags are your website?" No. That's like saying a card catalog is a book. It's not. It's a means to an end, but not the end.
Tools are tools, but content is still king. Check out Zeldman's latest post for evidence. http://www.zeldman.com/2007/03/15/web-1-point-0...

in Twitter is the New Gate Jumper on Chris Brogan
@Justin: I think you've hit on something important regarding "in" vs. "retro" and how quickly humans are adapting. There's a very cool movie called "Waking Life" in which one person philosophizes on this. He observed that "ages" (Bronze Age, Iron Age, etc.) used to last much longer. But as humanity has progressed, the time of those "ages" continues to shrink. Not so long ago we had the Industrial Age. Then (within many people's lifetimes) we saw the rise of the Information Age. We're already starting to identify the precursors of the "age" after that (I believe many people refer to it as the "Medical Age" or the "Longevity Age" when medical advances are happening VERY rapidly). So the character in the movie posits that in a short time we may seem humans mentally "evolving" at the rate of several "ages" per lifetime. Yep, we're constantly evolving.
So even within the Internet age, we've gone from email to the Usenet "age" to the Internet, to the Dot-Com boom, to the Dot-Com Bust, to the rise of social media, and now already beyond it with tools like Twitter that push the concepts of social media beyond what MySpace and the like ever conceived.
Now if I can just get Chris to update his copyright to 2007, we'll enter yet another age. ;-)

Riesling seems like an odd pairing, Chris. I would think a splosh of Bordeaux or a nice Cotes de Rhone would be the way to go. That's what we do with Courtney's spaghetti sauce.

@Justin: I know what you're saying about blogging on MySpace. However, writer Warren Ellis takes a different approach: He blog multiple times per day on his regular site but saves one little unique morsel for his MySpace blog daily. That way it gives fans a reason to subscribe to both. I think that's an interesting approach.

Good list, Chris. A few additions/suggestions:
For FTP, Cyberduck is good, but IMO you can't beat Transmit.
If you like Ecto, try Mars Edit as well.
One of the most useful apps ever is xPad. I save text documents to my iPod and then go shopping. Kicks serious butt.
And if you do web development, Xyle scope rocks the house.

I also suggest the use of a bookmark posting/sharing service like Delicious or Magnolia (which I prefer). These allow you to not only decentralize you fave links but discover what other people are linking to as well.

in SNACK- Goodbye to NEW Media on Chris Brogan
The interactive agency I worked for in Manhattan abolished the term "eCommerce" back in 1999 as well. The term was "commerce." It's about "convergence" and it's about "synergy" (I don't care for that word). And I maintain that as long as we feel the need to differentiate, we're creating artificial boundaries.

in SNACK- Goodbye to NEW Media on Chris Brogan
Interesting article, but I think the author misses the point. I agree that the concept of "new media" is over. In fact, I first heard that said back in 1999. However, calling "new media" "eMedia" instead is just "a horse by any other name." It's still making an artificial differentiation between other forms of media and electronic media. If we're truly forward thinking, then it's time to not only do away with the term "new media," it's also time to get rid of other differentiators like "eMedia." The term is simply "media."
