Interesting. I've been busy of late and haven't been reading all the posts in my reader. Yet today I read this one and it's just what I need. I will be reading the rest of the series with interest.

in GamerzReviewz is Up For Sale and the COWpetition Contest is Closed on John Cow dot COM
Why are you only donating your profits if you win? Is that so if you lose you at least have a few $$ to console yourself with? I was of the understanding that you were planning to donate the profits either way.

The winner of the contest gets all the proceeds so if we lose then Garry gets all the money... so we cant donate it. Not sure what you mean by all of it, if we lose we get 0.
EntreBlast
He's most likely going to win anyways.

Whether it's a real word or not - I know what you mean. I do it all the time. A great pitch, good gift - whatever - but then I don't unsubscribe and receive the most ridiculous pitches. Keeps me armed with material for Homer though! Mark

in The Stompernet Stomp on Guru Fodder
Stompernet seems to be all ANYONE is talking about these days. And for all the blog posts I've skim read about it, I still have NO IDEA what it is or does. LOL.
As for your actual point. Yes, there is a fine line there between making good use of a list and abusing the trust of those who signed up.

Me neither!! The saturation is such a turn off for me I'm probably missing out on the greatest product ever - sorry, I remember from last time, greatest expensive product ever! Thanks for your thoughts Mark

I love the idea of the timer. I tend to be a bit of a "flit around wasting time and hoping that something will come of it" type person.
Thanks for the encouragement to get more focused.

in Learn How to Kill Your Competition - A Case Study of How We Beat up Garry Conn on John Cow dot COM
I think subscriber numbers, daily visitor numbers AND monthly net income (so profits after all expenses are taken out) should all be factors in deciding the winner.
If you wanted to weight each of those factors equally, you could award 1 point to the winner of each category. So in essence the final result would be a score out of 3 (or more if you choose to include other categories). If you wanted to weight some factors more than others, you could assign 2 points to the winner of those categories and so on.
Providing the total number of "points" allocated is an odd number, you won't end up with a draw either.
The final sale price of a blog seems to be a little bit too subjective (open to too many variables) in my mind to be a realistic indicator of blog success.

I think a certain amount of "personal" material really adds to a blog. You just have to be careful how MUCH (unless you're writing a PERSONAL blog  ). What I LOVE most about blogs is the more "personal" interaction.
So the kinds of things that will keep me coming back:
* The blogger writes in their own unique voice
* As I read I feel like the blogger is talking to me
* The language isn't too "technical" or wordy
* The blogger responds to any comments I make (I like being heard)
* The material written is of interest to me with a bit of variation (who wants to read about the same stuff EVERY single day????)
HOWEVER, if I'm reading a blog for the information side of things, I really DON'T want post after post about menus and some such. The occasional post on the other hand I think can actually EHANCE a readers experience.
