in Is Social Video Chatting The Future? on Social Times
I don't think that video will make an effective Twitter-like communication tool because it takes far too long to watch video compared to the speed of scanning text. While video is much more interesting and complex than text, I'd guess that the number of conversations one could watch would be far less than 10% of the number of Twitter messages one could skim or read in the same amount of time. What to me would be the most interesting product would be something that combines the complete text of the message (not just tags) paired with optional video - so you can scan through the texts quickly and then choose to watch the videos for a small subset of them.

in Is Scrabulous Going Bye Bye? on AllFacebook
Of course Scrabulous is a clear copyright violation, but something lots of people would hate to see eliminated because it is so much fun.
I think Hasbro is faced with two bad choices - shutting Scrabulous down, or buying it. Both are likely to have negative impacts on their bottom line - they would have been much better off had Scrabulous never existed. But of the choices now available, buying it has to be the better one. Companies don't prosper by hurting the good will of their customers.

in Accessibility of Entrepreneurship on Startup Weekend
Andrew -
As one of the female attendees, thanks for writing about this. I've spent a long career as a consultant and entrepreneur in technical/mathematical/financial fields, and have generally not seen any increase over time in the limited female percentage. Startup Weekend, or at least the one I attended in D.C., is I think a pretty comfortable environment for females (proving my rough rule of thumb that the smarter the group, the less that gender matters). But I think that to make any real inroads into the male/female disparity, the changes and encouragement need to start at high school age or earlier.
