I get them too!! Its horrible!! It feels like i cant breathe and thinking about it makes it worse!! I worry about everything and im scared of dying. Its anxiety and I would go and see a doctor.

It's very late. I just got in from a wonderful evening. Match Point, Woody Allen's return triumph, is absolutely riveting. Catch it if you can... it opens up to more screens in due time... another week or two and it'll be playing out in Fargo.

It's a dumb idea to even wade in those kind of waters but it's sure as heck not a "Macaca" moment for three reasons:

-She said it first
-It came from a memo, not the candidate's mouth
-It's not on YouTube.

Also, it's a hit on her ties to the major beneficary of disappearing American jobs. It's not tring to appeal to anti-Indian seniment, it's trying to appeal to "fear of losing your job" seniment. That's fair game in my book. Again, dumb, but hardly fatal.

Rich - I went back and re-read the memo and my opinion stands. It's a hit on her support from companies that outsource jobs. It specificly mentions Cisco and a shady Indian investor who was arressted. It makes none of the thinly vailed racist refrences that have been used on, say, Obama by Fox news. It refrences specific relationships with specific people and corporations. I find it hard to beleive that Obama hasn't taken any money from comapnies that outsource, so it might turn out to be a little hypocritical, but beyond the Pubjab joke that Clinton made herself, please point out where this is racist?

Obama is in a pretty good position right now. His numbers could be a little closer to Clinton but overall he is in good shape. His fundrasing has been impressive and he will have a lot of ammo to do slick TV ads in preperation of Sunami Tuesday. The importance of Iowa and New Hampsire have been diluted due to so many states moving their primary up. Look for Edwards to do well and maybe even win Iowa but peak there. If Hillary and Barack dry up the rest of the money it will come down to a two person race as the remanider of the field falls out. IN a head to head, Barack can calim electibility and a new face that people are starving for.

I will say this, outside the political geeks like us that focus on this stuff all the time, the general public is only somewhat paying attention to the field right now. The poll numbers do not move noticiably these days. Obama has to hit another big shot a la Audacity of Hope, and he needs to time it right. If he can dazzle the crowd on a big stage in the late debates he will walk away with it.

AMEN - I'm glad this is finally getting some attention. Taking licenses is not only inconvienent, it's totally impratical in the modern world. What if I had a flight to catch the next day? No luck. It's more than just a license, it's a formal ID that is too heavily relied upon to take away for minor traffic offences.

ids - you obviously have not paid the least bit attention to the rate relief issue for the past six months. This deal is the product of an extremely difficult negoiation and, while not perfect, is the best deal to get money back in people's pockets and do away with the rotten reverse auction. Calling for a rate freeze now would be the single most counterproductive thing the guv could do.

He does not have the political capital to sit on the budget. The pressure will get too great if he is the only obstacle. Nobody is going to blame a state comptroller for employees not getting paid. Every editorial board, interest group etc. will gang up on Rod. How long can he take that kind of heat? We'll see.

He should veto it and walk away. He played his hand and lost. If he has any hope of fighting another day he needs to find some closure.

PR - I don't really agree. How is it removing the rigged reverse auction and relpacing it with an independant agency going to lead to higer price? The electric market is volatile for sure and I'm not saying the plan is a end-all cure. But it's an attempt. One that was carefully negoiated and signed off on by consumer groups. I'm not saying you're wrong, but exactly how is the plan a disaster and how could it realisticly be improved?

Tom is right. California and other states with slots can offer bigger purses, which means better races which equals more revenue.

what's ironic here is that for a while, Jones was in control of this session. He had manuvered himself to be the swing position. Both the Speaker and the Guv were working to get him away from the other. He could have done any number of things with that position. I don't like the man but for a couple weeks I really respected how he played his hand. And then he blew it all by going back on a deal. This will resonate for a long time. Few things sting like a double cross. PS - how lame does Jones' fake anger at Watson over the capital bill look now. Bad acting to cover a poor decision.

Anon - your passion and loyaltly are admirable but at some point reality needs to check in. Starting with GRT and moving forward the Gov. has been reeling from a string of defeats both in the GA and the court room. He has responsded to these defeats with an almost uncanny ability to ignore the electorate, the media and everyone else and press on with his agenda no matter how many lawmakers, judges or voters disagree. Some might say he's tenacious but it looks more like stubborness and ignorance. This blog isn't pro-Madigan or anti-Blago (for the most part) ut the people here are well informed about what's going on in the patch and they know the governor is a HUGE dissapointment on more levels that I have space to mention.

On the contrary, if you look at comparable cities (Decatur, Champaign, Bloomington etc.) they are usually pretty hard on General Assembly members.

The school girl-crush that PJS has on Schock was cute when he was debating specialty license plates or some other small potato business, but this is Congress, diplomacy, international relations. Kind of a big deal, might want to do some real reporting over there.

Four years ago, if I recall correctly, Kusinich supporters switched to Edwards and gave him a strong showing. It could be a very good indicator as to where some of the lower tier candidates will throw their support as they inevitably run out of money.

Pat - Alvarez is WAY in the lead? Really? I no longer live in cook and don't have a dog in this fight so I really don't care. But I do find it a little hard to believe that Alvarez, who hasn't run for office, doesn't appear to have much money (filed last D-1 on paper, never a good sign) and is in a crowded field with big money players like Suffredin and Brookings, is WAY in the lead. AFL is with Allen, Suffredin has Jackson and White, Brookings has his share of big name support. I'm not saying Alvarez can't compete but "WAY in the lead"??? Also, whenever someone has that much detail about a candidate's record, it a little obivious that you are close to the campaign. No offense, use the blog to promote your candidate by all means. But your claims seem a little thin.

as as avowed atheist, it really doesn't bother me all that much. People have gotten too sentsative about this issue on both sides. I have seen displays at capital for Falun Gong that were down right disturbing to look at (torture practices by the Chinese government and all) and while that was more a political message than a faith message, it was still about a religon and no one complained. The captiol belongs to us all and, within reason, should be a place where expressions of all faiths are allowed.

I understand her vote and don't think she should be raked over the coals for it. But a present vote would have been more appropiate. She should have said that as a sister and aunt she must obstain. But by voting no, Deb Mell the lawmaker is saying that the misdeeds of the governor do not warrent his removal from office. That's a tough choice to defend. No one is going to beat her in that district, but as a matter of principle it was a bad vote.

You're dismissive and holier than thou, self-rightous tone is unneccessary and brings nothing to the argument. You say there is no medical need, well, there is no meidcal need for other painkillers either than. It's about providing comfort and aid to people in need. A lot of people pushing this very common sense measure are not "potheads" as you so caliously say. Some of us have seen the effect of chemo and radiation on a loved one and have seen how medicinal marijuana has helped them.

No, VM, you're not. About 40% of Americans regularly attend church. Most pools on basic civil union rights get above 50% approval. Because at their heart, most Americans do not hate gay people, they are not offended by gay people and they do not believe gay people are out to molest their children.

And do you really want to lean on historical law as your main pillar in this argument. Think about some of the other things that have been historial law for thousands of years (and still are today in some place)...the right to own people as property, the right to kill women for disobediance. Human history is pretty messed up sometimes. Every once in a while there are chances to fix small parts of it. This is one of them. Giving two people who love each other the same basic rights as everyone else is not sinful. If you think it is, you are in the minority. You're entitled to your opinion, just not the ability to impose it on others.

No on both. Limit the terms of the elected leaders and the gap will be filled by career beauraucrats who can just wait out legislative leaders. Limiting their ability to make outside income is unneccessary in terms of ethics and reeks of the little personal jabs at the GA that Blago liked so much.

Why is this committee, which was formed in the wake of RRB's scandals, so obsessed with Madigan and Cullerton? It all seems like a personal gripe with Collins.

What a crock. Where is the morph into his ol' buddy Tom Cross? You remember Tom Cross, the guy who was working overtime to give Blago $30 billion in capital contracts to sell off even after everyone knew he was under investigation?

Say what you want about Madigan's symbolic gesture of party unity in 2006. Cross and his crew were hanging tight with Rod while Madigan was battling him at every turn. Skip Saviano gave Friends of RRB money for crissake!

A head to head with Stroger alone and a strong Claypool endorsement is the only thing I can think that would pave the way for a Repub. in Cook. Any other circumstance and the Dem. registration numbers will be too high to overcome. Let's not forget that this guy has been out of the state for so long that when he left, Barack Obama was just another state senator and Rod Blagojevich was an up and comer with high approval ratings. His ship has sailed.

Madigan has every right to be furious over Filan. Above all, the stalemate of the previous 6 years was based on mistrust. Nothing could get done because no one could trust that Blago could or would keep his word. Now, after asking for breathing room to let the guy leave gracefully, Quinn rehires the biggest lighting rod in town and clearly violates the spirit of an agreement between the two men. It's deja vu all over again. This guy wants to be trusted with large matters like the captiol bill signing etc. but sticks his thumb in the speaker's eye to keep his ol buddy on the payroll. I don't care if they used to push each other on the tire swing as children, he made a promise and now he's broken it. It may not be the big lie, but it's petty enough that it will likely cause problems down the road. Time and again, Quinn is showing he's not ready for prime time.

Bill - If you think MJM being an "obstructionist" was the problem over the past 6 years you either are dillusional or your last name is Quinlan. Say what you want about the speaker, he was the only one who stood and fought Blago while everyone else either protected the crook (Emil) or schemed to work with him and give him more contracts to sell (Cross). The guy deserves to demand that Blago's acomplice be banashed.

As a policy measure, it's all fine and good to debate a computer generated map.

For Cross and Co. to use it as a negoiation point this late in the game is at best disingenious, at worst shameful.

But then again,I'm sure they don't see it that way since the budget deficit is totally made up and the impending crisis is all manufactured. And the deficit is all the Democrats fault...if there was one...which there isn't...cause the Dems are making it all up.

In order of preference:

Spitzer wasn't a terrible governor, not great, but a decent executive, just had a major, major flaw.

I disagree with Sanford on just about everything but I kinda like his weird honesty about the whole thing.

And then there is Rod, maybe he should have tried a sex scandal. It would have been better than what he was: an inefficent, unintellignet and utterly incompetent "governor" who from day one was only in business to steal anything that wasn't nailed down and stroke his own narrsistic ego. His crimes are much, much worse that Spitzer and Sanford becuase they were not foolish personal trists. They were a criminal enterprise, a poorly run one at that.

Sitting through a whole meeting with the senate prez and not saying a word about a major veto you're hours away from stamping is not "playing hardball" It is in fact "playing stupid" Quinn does not benefit from any of this erratic behavior. It weakens his position and gives lawmakers from the leadership to the rank and file reason to distrust him.

I wouldn't call it a homerun as much as a check swing single. He stays in the game, but far from crossing home plate.

Quinn certianly has luck on his side these days though. He accidently stumbles into the governors office and now the one person he stood no chance against takes a pass. His best political plays have had one thing in common, he had no control over them at all.

Oh, and my guess in Hynes is all in and is just taking his time so as not to seem like he was beholden to Lisa's decision.

AL in recent years has generally had better long ball hitters and better closers, both matter a lot in these types of heavy subsitution games.

That being said, it was a pretty good game last night that could have gone either way. A well timed triple and a sac fly decided it. And then it was three shut down closers in a row.

that's a classic madigan line. Funny stuff. It also serves as a nice little reminder of how eager Hamos, Tom Cross, Sacia and others were to give Blago billions more in contracts to illegaly sell off to the highest bidder. Because, of course they knew Lisa was going to run for governor and the speaker didn't want Rod to cut ribbons. What a difference a year makes.

Hamos is a typical hollier-than-thou type limo-lib. To say she is out-of-touch with your average homeowner with kids paying taxes and slugging through a reccession while their 401k tanks would be an understatement. Didn't she refer to voters as cockroaches not that long ago? The transit stuff got her some press but it's not like that problem is totally solved. I think the more people ge to know her, the less they will like her. I've met her. She's a nice enough person, but when introducing herself to voters for the first time, it will be hard for her to avoid looking awkward and cold.

Seals actually regressed as a candidate last year and his shop was terribly disorganized. This seat should be a D pick up, but for the candidates.

I know many Cubs fans and none are bigots. That being said, in the couple times I've been to Wrigley I heard some pretty bad stuff in relation to Bradley, Fukedome and Soriano. I think a lot of it comes from that "Bro" culture of privliged upper-middle class white boys who pre-gamed at Barleycorns for three hours because they can leave the job dad got them whenever they want. They are loud and obnoxious, but they are a minority of the fans.

And no fans, anywhere, will ever beat Philly for being unabashed racists.

This is NOT a white flag trade. This is getting rid of a pitcher whose time is well past and getting SOMETHING for him. and it's probably more about letting Thome get a chance at a ring and open up the DH spot for Dye or Quinten so this team can start to figure out what next year is going to look like. All that being said, the starting line-up tonight, on paper, is still one that can compete. Six games back with 11 against the Tigers and Twins. Weirder things have happened.

Don't forget that 1994 also was the backlash of the brady bill. Lots of gun owners who are not the most dependable voters made a point to show up. The tea parties might be a similar crowd, but it seems they have more of an anti-government, ron paul kind of vibe. Who knows if they are going to show at the polls.

I think the answer is Yes, the feds are often over-zealous in their persuit. Ever since Rudy Guliani became New York Mayor on the coattails of over-reaching conspiracy trials, it has been all too popular for fed prosecuters to use their endless resources to harass and bully defendents to the point of, in some cases, insanity. It calls into question the spirit of innocent until proven guilty. I'm not sure if this is the best case to highlight that fact however. Kelly was clearly a troubled person with a lot of demons. It would be tough to say which aspect of the overwhelming ordeal lead him to this point.

watching these two try to manuever is like watching a Lions vs. Rams game. Whole lotta incomplete passes and missed field goals.

Hynes is right on the merits of the argument. The state is broke and he wants to pay the important stuff first. This is consistent with his attempt at the "responsible adult" theme. The problem is he left himself open for shots from the mayor, who is so totally consumed by the olympic bid that they will need to take his belt and shoelaces away if it goes to Rio.

I think Quinn wins out in this 6-3 snore-fest, but only becuase Hynes didn't do a good job of defending his position and didn't cut and run when he had the chance. But a dust up over tourism money isn't going to do much to soldify Quinn's soft support. That sucking sound you hear is the leadership vaccum.

Why are some people acting like Pat Quinn is an incumbent or even a front runner??? The man has not earned a THING. He gets elected to the most meaningless position in Il. government on the coattails of the most corrupt administration in state history, proceeds to do nothing but the occasional solider funeral for 6 years, falls backwards into the governor's chair and shows no ability to be at all decisive or to get anyone to follow his lead.

Quinn has at best, soft support. Hynes is as boring as the day is long, but someone might as well try to challange Quinn, for Quinn beneift if nothing else.
