Thanks so much for the kind words about kwiry. One service we learned about that has the Netflix functionality is txtful (www.txtful.com), hope that's helpful. Thanks again for using kwiry. Let us know if we can be of more help.

Re: Bye MG Siegler, we’ll miss you — especially your headlines

Congrats MG! I have a solution for you! Since you have an iPhone, you can use our e-mail input. Just send a kwiry to save@kwiry.com and it will be processed just like our text messages. Please let us know if this works for you or if you have any more questions! feedback@kwiry.com

Re: Amazon launches an iPhone app, uh where was this on Black Friday?

Good point Ron, I actually meant to mention that in the story as a possibility and forgot to add it in. In fact, it could have taken longer for Apple to fully determine that there was no way to buy an MP3....

Re: Note to Self: Remember to Blog about Kwiry

Thanks for the great and thorough post Luca! We'd love to expand with a dedicated shortcode for other countries (the UK and Canada in particular) and plan to do so but we're quite a small start-up at the moment and the costs and overhead are substantial. In the meantime though, we definitely encourage our international users to use our email, Twitter and mobile web inputs. Send us thoughts or feedback anytime to feedback AT kwiry DOT com!

Re: Perhaps my iPhone 3G’s Exchange is draining the battery?

I suffer from same problems.

On my old Palm device the ActiveSync implementation allowed for "push" or to set a polling schedule (e.g. every 10 minutes the phone would pull). I used the pull method for years and had no issues. Alas, this configurability is not available on my iPhone.

I'm considering switching off ActiveSync, but I really need my calendar sync'd to the exchange version -- and I can't be without the accept/decline for meeting invites I can get to my corp mail through IMAP/POP, but don't know how to maintain calendar in sync -- any thoughts?

Lastly, why does the iphone implementation ping the server EVERY time I go to a mail message? (often even if the message has been previously opened?) This seems like a particularly chatty implementation and many times it takes as long as 2 to 3 seconds just to open a mail message. If the connection is slow (Edge) then it can take even longer (again, for a message that has come in several hours prior...).

Also,

Re: Perhaps my iPhone 3G’s Exchange is draining the battery?

I have no push services on (use IMAP and Google Apps For Your Domain account) and battery life is still terrible, so while it probably makes it worse, there are definitely other issues.....

Re: Is there anywhere that Mobiles don’t belong?

I think the gym is a bad one all around. People talking on their cell on the treadmill, etc. or carrying it around while lifting weights, checking mail between sets, etc. The gym should be a mental and physical escape from all that IMHO.....not to mention how annoying it is for others and the potential for damage to the phone.

Re: Can You Build A Business On Browser Extensions?

Good points and thanks for the recommendations

I think the second point in particular is important and was not part of my thinking until now

Thanks

Fred

Re: Can You Build A Business On Browser Extensions?

Fred - 1Password for Mac (http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password) is an amazing plugin (& client to be fair) that manages all your passwords, but mainly functions through the browser. It works on the iPhone too and I think that will make it even more successful. Not sure how big of a business it is, but they actually charge for it.....

Xoopit is a browser plugin specifically for GMAIL that has raised significant funding and has broader ambitions for other webmail services.

Surf Canyon, not unlike Site Advisor improves your search experience seamlessly.

I think that two trends will make browser extenstions very real businesses:

1. As Firefox becomes more pervasive and the broader public becomes more aware of extensions, they will (not unlike Facebook applications) become a more mainstream part of the web.

2. The trend towards webapps means that as more mainstream users spend most of their time within the browser (webmail, blogs, facebook, google apps, etc.) , browser extensions stand a chance of becoming new core "software".

Re: Who Is Using Google Apps?
