It may or may not represent piracy in the legal sense. So it could make sense to hold them until a clarification can be obtained from a real lawyer.

What rights do criminal suspects retain in international waters? Those of the nations of which they are citizens? Those of the nation that registered the vessel aboard which they are detained? Some other set of rights stipulated by treaty? None at all?

Actually, the same is true for recreational boat incidents. It's virtually never a single colossal screwup. It's almost always a small oversight here, something taken for granted there, a bit of bad luck, a bit of uncertainty about the proper response, and then...oh crap.

I think you mean "Mauritanians". Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean. I've never met a Mauritanian that I know of, but I once met a pair of lovely young women from Mauritius...a story for another day. :-)

I applaud this move. I love the site, but when I share it with somebody else and ask later "what did you think?", I keep getting comments like "It was kind of confusing," refering to the layout and site design. A good web/interface designer can do wonders to improve the user experience, assuming the content is solid to begin with, as yours is.
