Books books books. I'll buy magazines and the occasional newspaper on occasion but for long term reading books. I think it's easier on the eyes for one thing. I also love the smell of books (is that weird?). And I can just grab a book and toss it in my bag.

I go back and forth on the Sony eReaders/Amazon Kindle. On the one hand, it would be nice to load up a bunch of books for a trip and just go - I always have such issues with books while traveling. On the other hand, batteries and lighting and whatever make it unappealing. I can just see it crashing badly and leaving me with nothing.

I can tell you from experience, they can be a real pain to get back together. Taking apart is easy. :)

I guess for me the question always is - how long do I intend to keep the machine, and what do I want to do with it later?

If you want to re-sell it, selling it with AppleCare ups the value, in my experience, if you sell it within the warranty issue.

If the logic board goes bad, it's about $900 to have Apple repair the machine, just to give you a frame of reference for something that happens and is pricey.

It's always a tough call for me - we got it for my husband's 17" MBP but not my black MacBook, based on price of the machine vs. repair costs.

So yeah, how long do you plan/need to keep the sucker up and running?

That's a very cool story! Neither my grandfather (who fought in Korea) nor my uncle (who fought special ops in Vietnam) will talk about their war experiences. I saw an interview with Ken Burns on The Daily Show recently and he talked about the new footage he found and about how he got all these vets to finally open up about WWII - fascinating stuff!

What a good boy you have there! Glad to hear it's something treatable - maybe go get a massage or something? I tore up my shoulder some years back and was referred to a good chiropractor - I thought those guys were total quacks but he was cool and taught me some good life care tips. Also, he has this magical rolly table that does wonders for my back (cuz I keep my stress in my shoulders/neck/back and not in my brain).

Aw suck! Eons ago I had to have 8 teeth pulled in one sitting (4 babies, 4 wisdom) so I was shot full of local and laughing gas. It didn't hurt at the time, but I can still remember the cracking noises - if I hadn't been high out of my mind on the gas I'm pretty sure I woulda kicked someone in the face or in the nuts. I was pretty bloody and sore for a couple of days, what with having like half my teeth gone.

My point? Laughing gas is the best. :)

I feel ya. We have a toddler living upstairs. Between the running (for hours - the kid has stamina) and lately the dropping of large heavy objects over, and over, and OVER again it makes me want to murder. And it literally knocks the ceiling lights out with the shaking.

On the one hand, I get it, it's a small child. On the other hand, WHY IS YOUR BABY RUNNING LAPS AT MIDNIGHT?!

I've mentioned it to them once and got a "well, it's a baby" response so now I just bang on the ceiling with a mop when they're out of control at odd hours.

The other day we heard large dragging of furniture noises and really hoped they were move out noises. No dice. :)

You could also see about weather stripping the door and caulking gaps in the exterior windowframes. (Not caulking them CLOSED but sometimes the frame comes apart letting drafts in.)

I'll tell you what though, I used to be all "BOOO corporate chain" about Starbucks but I will give them major props for how they treat their employees - part-timers qualify for health insurance, they pay better than a lot of retailers, they're really accomodating about their schedules, and I know a girl I grew up with had to leave to come home for her dad's surgery and Starbucks totally took care of her - comped her some checks and vacation time and temporarily transferred her to a new store so she could work a little near her dad.

So that $5 latte is at least going toward paying their people, which is nice.

I think their coffee sucks though - WAY over-roasted.

Clever. But on the rare occasions we order pizzas, the boxes are all nasty and greasy. We've used check boxes for organizing before.
