Have heard that not a lot of users were happy with the new change in Facebook's interface.. But this article did shed a lot more light on the issue..

Well, to be fair, most of the newly included lists are older than one year; it's just that TSPDT discovered them recently. So, the previous list was less "accurate".

"If the last 100 entires keep changing, maybe 1000 masterpieces is too large a number yet. We’ll have to wait for the catalog of film history to grow larger before 1000 of them become solid references."
I thought that with the number of sources increasing so much, they might also increase the length of the list. It has always been the top 1000 films, even back when it was based on fewer than 1000 individual top 10s (3s, 5s, 25s, ...).
Now, since the new top 1000 is more "accurate" (i.e. based on more sources) than the old one, I predict it will be more stable. And, indeed, previous updates were not as big as this latest one.
Also, many of the new entries are actually re-entries from previous versions of the list.

Finally, even though 1000 is a large number, and I'm not even close to having seen all of them, the list still excludes many, many masterpieces (did anybody here participate in that rags-to-riches game TSPDT organized a while ago?).

funny, but this is sort of common knowledge in russia, and it never occured to me that it was unique to soviet union.

one correction, though. not that it wasn't made illegal, self publishing in any form was prohibited at all times in soviet union. but in and of itself that wouldnt have killed "boneizdat" as it hasnt other forms of underground publishing. i think (and its just my personal opinion) this "technology" was simply gradually replaced by tape recorders.
