Sounds perfect for daytime, I'm a big fan of tart citrusy drinks. I wonder how a touch of Orangina would do in this? Have a great 4th you two!

jpower I'm sure it would be great! Yesterday when I made this I added a lot of orange slices, squeezed a few oranges into, and even added a splash of OJ from a carton. It was quite tasty. Let me know if you try it.

in Today I yelled at the interns & then I apologized on On The News Desk
I follow you on Twitter and can only imagine how stressful your position is, and know that you work extremely long days. Everyone loses it once in a while, don't be too hard on yourself, and I'm sure that the interns understand as well. Thanks for doing such a wonderful job keeping us updated with breaking news. I will always be a loyal fan!

mistymontano It has been several stressful days in a row due to all the storms. I shouldn't have yelled, though. I should've asked for help instead of yelling! That's why I apologized. Thank you for the encouragement.

Very nice, I actually like the tray without the plexiglass! Assuming there may be a wobble issue with that though?
WineWonkette's picture
WineWonkette There is a little bit of wobble without the plexiglass, and since we live in a really humid part of the country the glue doesn't always hold as it should. The plexiglass also keeps the corks from coming out.

I like it! I would love to see a picture of the tray your wife made as well!

My sister, who is full grown, still continues to make me cork trivets, and on the back she writes "Heidi's trivet" in her horrible writing with a sharpie. It always makes me smile :)

They are the best and so simple, thanks for sharing your technique! The butter combined with olive oil is so central to many chefs techniques, and I've heard various reasons why. What they all boil down to is this: Butter burns quickly, but has a wonderful flavor, olive oil will take longer to burn, combining the two works well!
Michelle (Taste As You Go) I love the combination of olive oil and butter. Just a little bit adds so much flavor!

Sad to say, I actually have never had a Colorado wine that I could swallow, and however much I love this state, I would never subject anyone to try them. Not only do they taste bad but they leave you with a killer headache. However, we do have some good microbrew beers, and if I was wearing a hat, I would tip it to Ska Brewing and Fat Tire.

jpower's picture
jpower I love the beer of Colorado almost as much as I hate their hockey team...which is a LOT! ;)

Fat Tire is awesome, but I think my favorite is Flying Dog.
Kelly I haven't either, Heidi. New Mexico wine is even worse! But I'm willing to trade more sunshine for Pacific NW wine!

in If I want a little Syrah should I order a Petite Sirah? on Another Wine Blog
Ah, sometimes I wonder if these hybrids should have been given entirely different names.

It's no wonder the consumers are confused and intimidated, and all the more reason we need you to educate us, thank you.
jpower's picture
jpower Better naming probably would have been a good idea. It is even more confusing because it is counter-intuitive for most people. They hear the Petite part and expect a lighter Syrah. Then they are surprised by how powerful Petite Sirah really is.

in Surfing is Good on Almost Fearless
Thank you for the follow on Twitter! I have family living in Malpais, and they are opening a fishing/sea kayaking resort, so next time if you want to try something different shoot me an email!

I too tried surfing in Malpais (Heather is a really good instructor there), and found it frustrating but finally was able to get up on the board! It's very hard work!

There is also an outdoor yoga class towards the end of the Santa Theresa road, on the left (the beach side), perfect for after surfing.

Cheers and happy travels!

Oh my. We are having a similar issue happen in the operating room with nurse barbie and doctor ken, dolls given to us by drug reps. Not a kidnapping persey, but each morning barbie and ken are often found in compromising positions, suffice to say their were also surgical scalpels and needles involved. It's quite brutal, you never know where they will turn up. Best wishes in your rescue!

in Be a Home Superstar Chef (Part 6 - Restaurant Supply Houses) on Another Wine Blog
Thanks for the Ace Mart rec. It appears they have no minimum, is that correct? Another thing we love is to visit Craigs list, for sadly, restaurants that are closing offering supplies. Times are tough, but helping them, helps us, and helps them to pay their debts. For cast iron, we've been either using our seasoned pans passed on by mom, or the good old Lodge Brand, actually found at Walmart for a great price. Season them properly, as noted in the post here thanks to you and twitter friend @chefmark, http://www.savory.tv/2008/09/13/cast-iron-skill..., buy one big and one small, and you're set. Also shop local estate sales whenever possible, you may just find a gem, be it a meat grinder, expresso maker, or an amazing stove.

I really need to break down and try Tweetdeck. What I would really truly find useful is a way to search the tweets of only the people I follow, does such a tool exist?

Cheers and feel free to follow me! @savorytv

Sheamus Yes: you can set up a group pane/column within TweetDeck and configure it so it only displays the tweets of people you select. Makes it really easy to follow friends and interesting folk. :) Try my article here for more detail.

Spironic Looks like the joke's on you! It *is* real! Go download it!

The cut-out glasses don't work though, of course. You have to find a pair somewhere. I haven't found a pair of glasses to use it with yet, but it does actually strip out the reds and blues from images and text. It doesn't work with plugins like flash, so you can't watch Youtube videos in 3D, bit it's still pretty neat!

I wonder how many people actually clicked the download buttor to discover that it actually works. I wonder if there's a 3-D hotkey.. I haven't found it yet if there is.

in Saving a bottle for just the right occasion on Another Wine Blog
Very informative post, and the last sentence is classic. I've seen some amazing wine cellars here in Telluride and Aspen Colorado homes, and I'm wondering if they are up to snuff, as Colorado is so dry in general. Perhaps they have a special humidifying system in place.

And, for the love, 32 oz of Kobe? AND creme brulee? That makes up for any wrongdoing, in my opinion :)

Cheers!

jpower's picture
jpower Hi Heidi,

Glad you liked the last sentence. It made me laugh, so I hoped it would do the same for someone else. ;)

We split that 32 oz steak, and half was bone, but DAMN, it was a lot of seriously good beef. If you are ever down this way, Killen's is a world class joint. Don't miss it.

I would assume that any decent wine cellar would account for humidity as well as temperature and vibration, but only an in-depth visit and tasting would tell for sure. :)
