in Premiership Preview–15. Wigan Athletic on EPL Talk
Fun read. I like the debate regarding the starting 11. First time I can remember Wigan having such a deep squad.
Ugly football is a bit unwarranted. I admit Wigan will put 11 men behind the ball when up against the big clubs. But sometimes they play quite nice football. Particularly during the first PL campaign.
Regarding the pitch, last year was a one time problem. I dont recall much complaining in the previous few years.
Siberski, I thought he was already cut loose. Kind of glad he is still on the squad. Has a talent for coming off the bench and getting a goal.

in Why this Welshman will be Supporting Portsmouth in the FA Cup Final on EPL Talk
In general, I dont have very strong allegiances. Usually I support the underdog, so I will be cheering for Cardiff. (sorry Gaffer)
And sometimes, I take pleasure in certain clubs getting clobbered, ManU is on that list.
As for Jpn-Aus at Germany 2006, the last 15 minutes was probably the most enjoyable football I have watched!!

in Fergie Deserves Praise for Grooming Rooney and Ronaldo on EPL Talk
Enjoyed the article. Have to agree. SAF desevers credit for keeping Rooney and Ronaldo on track and seeing they achieve their potential. It seems Nani and Andersen are on their way as well.
But on the other end of the career, SAF deserves credit for keeping some of the older players who are past their sell by date. Scholes, Giggs, and Ole Gunnar are examples. Having so much experience in the squad has to be invaluable in developing younger players.
I would suggest Wenger could learn from this and maybe change the Arsenal policy of 30 and out. Having a few, select veterans on the squad might keep the youngsters from going wobbly during rough patches.

in Why Hicks & Gillette Are Giving Americans A Bad Name on EPL Talk
i "The best thing that could happen to the American owners at this stage is that they sell the club to someone who does understand football and the business of football better."
Only true if you can find an English consortium. The Dubai group probably looks at all this jingoistic blah blah, and wonders if they really need the headache.
To be sure, there is only one story at Anfield. Why can't Raffa challenge for the League Championship. At the end of the day, he is a cup manager.

in Top 10 Contenders to Become Next Newcastle Manager on EPL Talk
One point regarding sam's departure: i dont think he was sacked, i think he left. frankly, i think he was starting to crack up at toon. his formations were mad, he said things to the press that were fantasy, his enterage of sports philosophers was beyond normal... so I dont think the board sacked him, i think he was clearly on the brink of a crack up, his world and reality were just not jiving...
as for the next manager, fresh start, no like for like... harry is just the south coast version of sam... hope the board takes its time and gets the right man, personally, i dont jose is beyond belief, the man likes a project, the toon is, if nothing else, a project..
