in Climate change: the “killer application” for mass collaboration? on Wikinomics
If the Clathrate Gun Hypothesis is right, 4.5 billion people could die. Killer application indeed.

in New word processor for iPhones on Scobleizer
Who writes "letters"? At the airport the other day, I noticed that old people spend their laptop time in Word, doing who knows what. Younger people spend it online.
Word processing is a tedious activity no matter how you present it. I expect it to wane over the next few years as people have much less need to write "letters".

in An evangelism opportunity… on Scobleizer
The difference between this hype cycle and the last one ca 2000 is that startups now no longer need to fork over millions to Sun for hardware and Oracle for software. Why in the world would you want to return to that world? It just dilutes your equity with no upside.
The hand-waving you are suggesting is not gonna change those numbers. And the kind of performance problems people are seeing can't be solved just by running the installer for SQL Server either. The kind of architectural advice you need you can instead get for free from Danga, makers of LiveJournal:

most PR people, just like most recruiters and most sales people, are totally expendable. sounds like you are having to deal with a lot of 9-5ers. good riddance.

in Google sticks its toe into enterprise waters (is Google hiding from bloggers?) on Scobleizer
While hosted Exchange has a nice UI (it invented the whole AJAX craze many years ago, after all), it is pretty unusable because of it's very poor spam filtering. If Microsoft adds a spam filter that can rival the Gmail one, then we are talking.

Profile as Resume
I'd like to see LinkedIn make this happen: instead of sending a resume to a company, I'd send a LinkedIn URL. (And, no, I'm not looking for a job, it's just an example)
I've typed up all my crap into LinkedIn, I have some lovely, kind recommendations from former co-workers, and my LinkedIn page better represents who I am than a resume ever could: web pages have links! In fact, my resume is just cut-and-pasted from LinkedIn. Resumes suck. Web-pages are much more rich.

You do realize this is a joke, right? Oliver is the architect behind Lazlo, so he *might* have a different opinion on flash personally ;)
