Thanks for the mention and sorry to see you have issues with SezWho.
We are really looking to engage the community at blogs by providing context and people based content discovery around comments. This should certainly add to the activity on your site and generate additional page views.
We love feedback from the user so let us know if there is anything we can do to add to the product etc.
Thanks, Jitendra

Andy,
Good points...BTW SezWho also provides ability to track your comment within FF if one wants. (see http://www.sezwho.com/blog/2008/05/26/how-to-ge...)
Duncan,
Thanks for the mention. We believe that taking comments out of the context of the conversation really does not help the conversation...instead it adds to the noise. To reduce the noise what is needed is to add more context to the place where the content is being created and consumed...This is the reason why SezWho provides a service that keeps the content where it is created and consumed. As a result with our approach, site owners don't have to worry about getting their content back with-in their system if they are unhappy with a service, and they don't have to worry about indexing/double-indexing issues etc. irrespective of the platform they are using.
That is my 2 cents worth :-)

Louis,
Interesting point...I tend to believe that blog comments and conversation on other social sites like forums, wikis etc. are all part of conversation...but for I do believe that the context for the blog comments comes from the post and taking them out can really be confusing...

Duncan, That is certainly an improvement...you might want to make sure that double indexing of content is not an issue with Google...And you have a strategy in place to reimport your comments in case you need to avoid data lock-in...Thanks, Jitendra

Hey Duncan, Jitendra from SezWho here...Losing control of ones comments (and SEO benefits and freshness etc. of your site - important for Google or TechMeme etc.) is really not needed to get all the community/threading features provided by Disqus. SezWho provides all the community/context services without taking over your content...In addition there are a number of other plugins that will replicate the other features of a comment replacement system without replacing your comments (E.g. Brian Threaded comments for threaded discussion etc.)... My 2 cents.
Thanks, Jitendra

Hi Jitendra
Not an issue in my case as I've implemented the Disqus API plugin (not the JS one) so in theory all of this content should be seen by Google and others, it was one of the selling points to me in implementing it.

in Conversation platforms will make blogs increasingly redundant on Over The Counter Culture
Hey Jitendra from SezWho here...Interesting post...I think by adding the context SezWho etc. make the conversation richer...although I am not sure these platforms in themselves are conversation platform (more like context platforms)...As such blog platforms etc. are not likely to be replaced by context platforms...

Scott,
Thanks for trying out SezWho and for a good analysis. We are working on a template for threaded comments where the comments...This skin would provide a standard look for comments with threading but would keep the comments within your system and thereby avoid all SEO issues.
Thanks, Jitendra (SezWho)

Scott,
with both ID and Disqus the comments are stored on their server and as a result you lose out in terms of page rank (for google)...
Take a look at
http://scobleizer.com/2007/12/11/bloggers-disqu...
SezWho on the other hand is context, ratings and reputation service rather then a comment replacement system...so the comments stay where they belog...Also the sync is really automatic, you just activate the plugin and sezwho indexes your existing comments to get you up and running in minutes...Also no migration means you can turn it off anytime as well in case you don't like it without worrying about any sync issues again.
Thanks, Jitendra

Revjim, this is an issue with centralized systems...they introduce a single point of failure to your system...one you have no control over...
We at SezWho believe in distributed mashups to build robust best of the breed systems...Take a look and let me know what you think?

Again, Thank you.
I understand this is an issue with centralized services. And I
understand that, for some applications, offloading anything to any
system that wasn't up ALL the time could be a bad idea. But that isn't
the case with me. I use Flickr, Twitter, Tumblr, LiveJournal, Askimet,
and many other hosted services. Adding comments into that mix doesn't
make too much of a difference to me.

in JS-Kit: a hosted commenting system on revjim.net
Revjim, take a look at SezWho as well...We provide the value in terms of connecting the conversations across sites without really taking over the whole comment system ... So you don't lose critical functionality like Trackbacks and other widgets like top commenters, recent comments etc. Also with the content on your site, you keep the page rank juice and page views on your sites as well.

Thanks for the pointer.
I'd seen SezWho in my initial search for a centralized comments service.
While I agree with you that hosting comments externally does forfeit
some features locally, it is my goal to find similar, if not better,
features in the hosted service I use. I'm not just looking to have the
comments connected, grouped, rated, or shown with reputation. I want to
eliminate user logins and provide commenters with a consistent interface
that they'll understand and be familiar with. Additionally, SezWho
requires that I have a working comments system already. While that is
the case on this blog, that is NOT the case in all of the places I
intend to use centralized comments.
Thank you for your time. I'm sure SezWho is a good fit for someone. Just
not me.

Deepak,
I am not seeing 1/2 a sec increase in terms of load time? It seems to be more like 200-300ms...
Also check out the profile link? Are you seeing additional page views coming from Sezwho based on the commenter based cross connections?
Also check out the stats page for your blog in your account to see how much usage you are seeing?
And let me know?
thanks,

Andy, Jitendra from SezWho (thanks for the install and it looks great)...We find that most users are overwhelmed with the number of browser plugins that do all sort of things...We considered having a browser plugin (and we might very well have one in the future) but decided that pitching our value directly to the site owners was a better way to go...
Also let me know what you think of Sezwho and how your users like it...also check out your stats at the sezWho my account page...

Dave, I think you make a great point in #4. We at SezWho think that comment data really belongs to the bloggers and the bloggers really do not want a commenting system competing with them for traffic. We provide a context, rating and reputation service that works with the existing comment system. This provides incentives to all participants in social media interactions:
Site Owners: Get a more engaged community (We a number of cases we have increase the number of interactions within the community by over 100%) and get additional traffic because of commenter based content discovery (http://sezwho.com/aboutus.php#traffic)
Commenter: Portable credibility across sites
Readers: able to find good content from bad quickly - also get able to find context on commenters.
Check it out at http://www.sezwho.com

Steven,
SezWho is not a comment replacement system instead we believe in letting sites stay in control of their data...We think platforms like WP, MT etc. do a good job or managing comment data. And what is needed are some value added services instead of adding another point of failure to the system.
Also we do not believe in competing with the sites we are on for traffic by building a destination site. Instead we focus on driving additional traffic back to the site by integrating our functions tightly into the site.
Thanks, Jitendra (SezWho)
(PS: with SezWho you don't need to worry if this comment is going to make it through the SPAM filtering or not ;-) )

Is it because SezWho does not offer any sort of anti-spam? Why is that a benefit?

We at Disqus have already been addressing these (very important) issues from the beginning.
