in Just say no to Kevin Stallings on Inside the Hall
We are talking about next year's coach in this thread because that is what the post is about. The point is there is still three days to kill and the news right now is the fact that a search team has been created. Feel free to provide us with your Arkansas scouting report and we can all react to that as well.

in Just say no to Kevin Stallings on Inside the Hall
This has to be the most ridiculous post I have seen on this site from a contributor since I began coming here at the beginning of the season. As an IU alum and lifelong Purdue hater, I don't think that you can automatically write someone off simply because he is a "Purdue" guy. If you don't think he would make a good coach at IU because of his track record and/or personality, that is fine. However, basing your argument on the fact that the guy has previous ties to Purdue is ignorant. If he is deemed capable of getting the program back to where we all demand it to be, then previous affiliations are irrelevant. Track record is a better compass.
That being said, I wouldn't be excited about a Kevin Stallings hiring either. On the other hand, a young, healthy John Wooden would be nice.

in Friday Roundup: Wisconsin, Kravitz and Knight on Inside the Hall
I completely agree that Calipari would not be a good candidate for IU at this point, but I see nothing wrong with Kevin Stallings. I am embarrassed every time the Purdue background as an excuse not to go after him. As a lifelong Purdue hater I am still open to consider anyone that will help the program (except Bruce Weber).
RMK was great on Mike and Mike this morning. I love it when anyone puts Greeny in his place. "We are done with that subject Michael."

in Dan Dakich on 670 the Score on Inside the Hall
As a Chicago resident, I too have to deal with this blowhard when I get tired of listening to the World Wide Leader in the morning. I've only been living here for five years so I have no clue how this guy got a job or how he is keeping the job. I guess it is a Chris Berman situation and he was first and line when they were passing out jobs and now they just can't get rid of him.

in Jeff Goodman says Sampson has been fired on Inside the Hall
If I remember correctly, Jeff Goodman was the first to report that DJ would not play against Purdue. I think he looks more for quick than accurate in his reporting.

Dakich was not in the report. Senderoff and Jeff Meyer were the only assistants mentioned.

in Hoosiers grab a share of Big Ten lead on Inside the Hall
If you want to defend the first time he broke the rule as well as IU hiring KS, that is fine. I was all in favor of the hiring myself. However, once he has been sanctioned for breaking specific rules and given additional restrictions regarding these rules you would think he would do everything he could to understand and abide by them in order to comply and get back in the good graces of the NCAA and the coaching fraternity. I view not doing so as negligence and blatant disregard on his part. He has taken a program that we have all lived and died with and pissed it away. For IU to stick by him would be to condone his actions. Some say innocent until proven guilty but hasn't he already admitted guilt? The only thing he is still fighting is the idea that he blatantly lied to cover up his cheating. That does not take away from the fact that he cheated in the first place (and second place for that matter).

in “I think the majority would want him to stay” on Inside the Hall
This is a very flawed argument. First, to think that all recruits will be lost because of a new coach? It is possible that a couple might leave, but they first have to get a release from IU and I am sure the new coach will attempt to convince them to stay. Armon Bassett and Xavier Keeling stuck around. Keeling leaving was more of a playing time and system issue I believe.
I don't think Bassett will go anywhere, unless he just doesn't click with a new coach. Their is no logical explanation provided as to why McGee or Holman would leave based on a new coach coming in. With your argument it seems they would more likely stick around for a new coach with the hopes of more playing time (and no DJ or Mike White).
Did EJ come specifically for Sampson or because he was not Mike Davis? I don't deny that the players have a relationship with KS. However Fife, Coverdale, Moye, etc. had the same relationship with Mike Davis. We saw the benefits of that for one season and then it led to the mess that the program finds itself in now.
You fire Sampson now because you see how the NCAA is viewing the situation after they have reacted to the original investigation and gotten additional information that solidifies the infractions. Zero tolerance is zero tolerance. IU should learn from past mistakes and take a harder stand when they draw a line. If you think Sampson didn't know he was breaking special rules that were set for him, you are naive.
While a love and respect what DJ White has done for the program over the last few years, I don't see how he could be a reason for the school to possibly mortgage their future. Also, as much as I want to see IU make a big run through March, I can't see them doing any better than the sweet 16. I don't believe that is a good enough reason to keep KS around when I think an interim coach could possibly do the same thing.
Finally, the termination would be easily defended because the contract states that the school has the ability to fire Sampson if he is found to have broken any rules. If you believe the program will receive sanctions then you obviously believe rules have been broken.
I apologize for the length of this post.

in Summary of NCAA allegations on Inside the Hall
What sucks the most is that we have now stooped down to the level of schools such as Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State and Kentucky. Now we have our own closets with skeletons to be embarrassed about. Hopefully our black eye will cover just these last two years.
I've said it before, but could you really handle listening to Purdue fans talk about how the only way Indiana cleaned up its act was by bringing in a Boilermaker? Boiler fans are pathetic enough...let's not give them some other lame reason to try and validate how Purdue is better than Indiana. Imagine if Stallings brought 5 titles to IU (which wouldn't happen..but just imagine...) Do you want to take those titles and listen to Purdue fans try and take credit for it? Forget it. We'll find someone else who will win titles with us.
