I'm currently half way through a Europe back packing trip. I considered the ASIs but took only my iPhone. Only thing I'm missing is a photo editor. Very impressed at the ability of the iPhone to replace my laptop for this (and potentially future) trips.

I agree here - two different beasts and comparing them is unfair. For me personally it's about convergance and I think the iphone is the closest thing we have to it right now. Phone, check; messaging, check; Internet, check...... It's ticking most of the boxes. Sure it has some flaws, but heck name me one device which hasn't ?
You are looking for a direct solution which at the moment the iphone can't do. Perhaps later it will. Black eyes a hoy hoy !

Loving my sling box - I travel all the time and this just makes those long nights in the hotel a whole lot more enjoyable. I find around 256k is fine for decent quality, even for football games (err thats soccer right :)

I also run the Sling recorder which lets me record stuff to my laptop which is kinda cool - it means I can record some stuff to my laptop for viewing when offline - for example on the plane on the way home.

I just wish the mobile version was available in Europe - i loved watching it on my XDA !

What a special man (Steve) and one who just oozed passion for all things nature. Sure some people thought he was barmy but his intoxicating style got others interested in nature and conservation so thats a fantastic thing.

One thing we all seem to forget when someone in the public limelight dies is the loss to their family, and right now my thoughts and prayers are with Terri and their two kids. We have lost a fantastic personaility, they have lost their husband and father.

Steve your gone, but in no way forgotton and on my trip to Houston this morning I'm glad I've got some crocodile diaries loaded onto my Archos.

Im gutted this annoucmnet is next week - I'm actually over in houston at the moment and my original plan was to pickup a cheap (gotta love that dollar --> UKP rate) video ipod - for video podcasts only (I already have an archos for movies and stuff) But now I dont want to shell out on an ipod video that will be replaced in the next few weeks/months ! Pants !

Yer came across this today - we (my employer) have a partnership with MIT Media Labs and I'm hoping someone will sign up - we have a few guys located in Boston. Yer I'd love to go along but I doubt they will pay for me to come across from the UK :(

The vlogs are great - more people should do them and list them on something like iTunes - I love to watch short to the point vlogs when travelling.

so my own take on this - I listen to and watch a lot of pod/video casts. The big benefit for podcasts is being able to listen on the move (ie walking, running etc) I do however love watching video podcasts and these range from a few short minutes to almost an hour. As long as the information is relevant and keeps me entertained I'll watch it. I agree howeer for videocasts you need to make the time to watch, podcasts can be picked throughout the day.

At the moment I'm thinking about a video ipod soley for videocasts - I'd love to have some software for my archos to do this automatically but still looking :(

I was once sitting in a bar most of the afternoon with friends, just chilling, few drinks, plenty of laughs. Then at 7pm the bar manager came over and asked me to leave as I was wearing jeans - they were happy to take my jeans wearing business before 7pm.

Yer am loving your videoblogs - I just need to finally get myself a video mobile player so I can watch these on the move. Mostly been watching the photowalking ones but when I've time also dropping into the others.

Although (as you say) some tuning is required going forward I think you have come a long way since your first show.

I kinda like the raw feel to it - ie not much post processing going on. Isn't this what it's all about.

I keep hearing most of the comments - it does not matter that it does not support 1080p as the content isnt there. I would add a VERY important word to the end of this "yet". I bought my 720p/1080i Sanyo Z4 projector only 12 months ago and at the time I was thinking - 1080p content is a long way off. Well as we know a year in tech terms is nothing and now I'm wishing I had a 1080p capable projector. I still believe not going for 1080p support is a big mistake - not enough to hit too many sales but for future proofing (and by that I mean 12 months) its a mistake. Will I get one ? Nah, I have the media center PC hooked up to the PJ and do all my video podcasts on thay. Now my biggest question (slightly un-related) is how I do video podcasts on the move. I dont yet own a video ipod and I think that would be the simplist, but perhpas the latest generation of Archos (Ive always been an archos man) is the way to go.

I really enjoy the photowalking shows - good to see you continue to improve them.

Personally I'd like to get back to the original photowalking ones when Thomas (or other photographers) would talk a little about how they were appraoching a certain subject, which lens they were using, settings etc. This makes it both fun and a learning experience for those of us @ home watching.

I'd be interested to hear your response if you then found out that someone sold you content without your permission for $10k - would you still be so happy for people to steal?

I've been struggling with this very aspect recently and have started to upload lesser resolution images to Flickr - but then of course you are perhaps taking something away from people legitimatly viewing the photos of flickr. I'm happy for people to take my stuff if they link back to it - but I'm sure there are some out there who simply take and never ask, then perhaps even try to sell.

Still a subject I'm not 100% sure about tho ..

Hey Robert - so I always raised this as an issue for your PodTech shows - very US centric, what about the cool stuff happening in other parts of the world.

I realise it's impossible to travell to these places, so you need local contacts.

Think about how the news is done today - more often than not there will be a chief reporter local in most regions.

Hardly an expert Robert - you have done it once :)

The whole queue thing I think is accepted more stateside. Try doing it over here and most places will call security and have you removed !

Also lots of the Apple stores / O2 stores over here are in shopping centres that close outside of normal hours so the closet you can get it queuing outside the mall itself - which is even crazier looking !

I look forward to keeping up with your blog, especially in the months to come when things seem tough .. that's when the real work begins .. I agree that as a well as taking photos, if you want to improve you need to surround yourself with photography ... speaking photography, reading about photography and of course looking and giving feedback on others images ...
