Bjork. All albums. "Volta" is pretty dope right now...it made me respect Timbaland more, cuz he fit into her world, not her into his. But she is the business.
Have a special place in my heart for Boney James. "Ride" is not an album to be missed (Trina Broussard and Dave Hollister accompany Boney James in a major way).
And I just love great vocalists so Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Steve Perry/Journey, Keith Urban, Martina McBride.
Oh, and Stevie Ray Vaughn probably one of the best guitarists of our time. Check out "Riviera Paradise."
That's my list.

in Best/Worst Week Ever: HBCUs on YBPGuide
I agree with the professors. I consider myself moderate, but I think the Republican front-runners have said everything that I need to be hearing about how they feel about me and my vote.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the rankings. I know that I used them when determining what school I went to after high school, and wondered why when I transferred from the school I was at to my second school, and HBCU, there was no information listed. I wonder how the schools will use the information in their recruitment efforts, and I wonder if kids still pay attention to the rankings like my friends and I did when we were close to graduation.

This is great news, because I wanted to find a cute canvas bag to do my grocery shopping as well. I know Lauren Bush had a similar effort with canvas bags that donated a sizable percentage to African charities (namely food shortages and AIDS if I'm not mistaken). This bag is cute and helping a good cause.

It breaks my heart that this story ended this way. It's scary times right now. Ladies, we have to be careful.

in Get it While the Getting is Good on YBPGuide
Such a timely post. As a business journalist I see everyday how the dire state of the housing market has extended into every facet of American purchasing power (hope none of y'all are looking to buy furniture any time soon because that industry is in the tubes right now).
There are things that all of us can, regardless of your current financial situation, that will help in the long run. Most importantly, do your best not to default (pay on time!) and budget, budget, budget.
Great post.

in Who else does your YBPness benefit? on YBPGuide
I totally agree Eugene. I'm sure we can all point to one person who guided or shaped us through example and experience, directly or indirectly. I often think if I could only give half of what my mentors have given me, I will be making a huge impact in the life(ves) of those younger. What's more helpful, is that most of us are not too far removed from being a senior in high school getting ready for that freshman year of college. Or remember the disappointment of not making the cut for your seventh grade sports team, or what have you. The freshness of our memories will give double bonus, because we remember clearly and have the advantage of wisdom.
I think we did a post about mentoring, when YBP was still on blogger, and I want to reiterate not forgetting about the young ones in your family. If you have younger cousins, nieces, nephews, distant cousins in your family reach out to them as well.
For example, I would not have known what the Air Force Academy was had it not been for an older distant cousin who worked there and really wanted to offer different possibilities to family, whether she knew us or not. By doing so, she opened my world through a once in a lifetime experience, and ultimately helped me find (albeit in a roundabout way), that my true love is journalism.
Up with mentoring! :)
