Considering how huge YouTube is and how many users are uploading content every second, how many people would be needed to scan and monitor this? I personally believe that Viacom didn't get the money they wanted when they were negotiating with YouTube a month or so back (YouTube changed the guaranteed revenue according to an article at WSJ) and so they decided to slap YouTube in the face, first by announcing their agreement with Joost. Then, when it wasn't causing as big of a stir, they went with the 1B lawsuit to get YouTube back into the table. This is a sick strategy in my mind.

Google has the money and Viacom wants a piece of it. Simple as that. But what do I know?

Re: Microsoft proves that irony is dead

It's about time that Microsoft is feeling the heat after years of world domination, er, technological innovation, er, nevermind. Google is pretty much the next Microsoft, if only in its dominance and similar practice of swallowing smaller competitors on its path to its behemoth size.

I fail to feel any sympathy for Microsoft nor am I on Google side either.

Re: Partial Freakonomics feed = bad idea

I agree and also dislike partial feeds. It's annoying to have to make that extra click to view something so I instead just have Bloglines show the titles instead since it's a waste of time for me to have partial feeds. So, although my readers will love the plugin, it doesn't work for me. So, I disabled it for that since I want to be able to blog with my Treo.

I have since started using mo:blog and u*blog but still unsure about enabling the plugin again. I do have mobile links on the side bar so that people can visit my site with those links so it still works.

Russell is a bit overrated in my view but who cares about what I think?

I do find it annoying that the Blazer browser on my Treo is so underpowered to do much of anything. I need Flash support at least since too many sites require Flash in order to work.

That's all I'm complaining about now.

Re: Apple: What happened to thinking different?

I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I consider any company to be just like any other. Google, Apple and other big companies that we know are very similar to the other enemies that we like to label like Microsoft, etc. The only difference is that they are likely not at the very top and fighting to be.

I have long stopped being loyal to any one company since they aren't loyal to their customers either so we're even. So no, I don't think of Google as any better than Microsoft or other company.

Re: Mobile Web sucks — or maybe it doesn’t

What plugin are you using that allows you to "view full HTML" with your mobile? And now that's extending to hairdressers. What's going to happen in the future? I'm sure that the libraries will be in the list some time in the future, since they are providing the CDs to borrowers, so who's to stop the borrowers from making a copy? This is getting ridiculous.

There's got to be a better way to promote the music so that more people are exposed to it and will pay for the creative work of the artists without having to resort to lawsuits. It looks like the EFF.org is onto something.

I for one, only still buy the CDs but really enjoy the online radio for the music exposure and for discovering new artists. But, if the case itself is going to weigh 7 pounds plus the weight of my own laptop which is around the same, wow, I will really feel it when carrying it around! I think this is one where they may want to offer the inline skate wheels so that you wouldn't have to lug it around. ;)

I have stopped carrying my laptop on trips due to the sheer weight and bulk of it, stuffing it underneath the seat or whatever. I was a bit stumped about what it was all about, especially the seemingly strange post. I guess it seems that this is happening a lot on various different PPC/WM topic sites.

I'm quite glad that my site is quite small that hardly gets any notice, but then it's hardly any news related so it will be quite obvious if anyone does take stuff from the site.

That's one of the reasons why I hardly post any news topics because there's way too many out there already, all competing to be the "first" or offer a huge batch. I knew that I couldn't spend the time to do it and also because my focus has always been to help rather than spread the news. I do post some from time to time but I really just enjoy writing. As I've already said before, it's more a hobby and I'm perfectly happy with it being small and known within the community.

Just added Aximsite and this blog in my blogroll. Always interesting to read what's out there in the community and your thoughts. Too bad I'm not one of them but then, I'm not sure if I even tried for one. Well, maybe one. I can't remember.

One of these days I'll be giving away some of my stuff. But then, I'll have to wait until I get enough cash to pay for all the fees first so it probably won't be until later on in the year (hopefully).

Re: Damned if you do and damned if you don’t

I guess I am guilty of a lot of the points. I can't help with regards to the ads since I need the money to pay for the hosting and maintenance. I do not have adsense or similar type of ads in the feeds since I personally find them annoying. The ads you see are the affiliate links I've inserted in the actual post.

As for the lengthy posts, it's the way I write because a lot of my posts are reviews and I feel that it can only help to provide as much information on a product as possible.

I don't get too wrapped up about when people unsubscribe since I have to do what I do without being distracted. My main focus has always been to provide information that people will find helpful and interesting. I know that I can't please everyone.

As for the feeds, I have way too many and never seem to catch up with them. In NewsGator, I have over 1600 feeds but I'm starting to filter them out and find those that I really want to read. I can't help it. I just keep adding new ones every day. I'm a feed junkie I guess. Some days, I just mark everything "read" just to get rid of the huge number. ;)

Re: Let’s get rid of sploggers

It's impossible to not find splogs on any search. I've found lots of splogs in Bloglines.

If only we could stop them, as well as spam (I can't believe someone would go through the manual effort of reading my blog to manually send me spam with my name and relevant info on a contest I'm holding including what to put in the subject to avoid spam filters. Unbelievable.

Re: WordPress Contact Form with Spam Protection

Hello! I've been trying to download the plugin but it re-directs to a page that says the page isn't found.

Re: WordPress Contact Form with Spam Protection

Thanks for fixing it! I was looking for it all day, thinking that it may have something to do with my browser so I tried various browser with the same result.

At one time I couldn't get it to work, but it seems to work now! That's great! At first, Bad Behavior blocked me from my site. I can't believe it! It seems quite aggressive so I've added my own ip address to the whitelist since I couldn't get a hold of the developer at all (all emails are bounced back).

Hopefully I can lessen the amount of spam emails I get from the contact form. I will periodically change the challenge question to thwart those human spammers that read.

Time will tell whether this is a good deterrant. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the great plugin!

Re: WordPress Contact Form with Spam Protection

Sorry to bother you guys again. The plugin is great and I have not had any spam going through unlike previously when I was using the PXSMail plugin.

Regarding the lining up of fields for IE, I can see that someone has provided the code for the plugin but I'm not sure exactly where I should insert them in. Could anyone help? Or, what about the tables one? How different does it look like? Will the tables format eliminate the viewability problem entirely? Thanks for any input!

Re: Why I Stopped Using Twitter

I never really "got" it or really understand its appeal although I do have an account. I mainly use it as a "status update" for my site to let my readers or visitors get an idea of what I'm doing. Other than that, who except my closest friends (and I really mean those that matter, or maybe not even them) wants to know what I'm eating, or that I'm going for my errands, etc? They can get quite boring after a while. I didn't subscribe to tweets but did get text message status updates from Facebook which is very similar. And, I certainly didn't like getting constant updates interrupting me 24/7. After a while, it was totally annoying. Like Blackerry, it can get addictive quickly but also totally destroys your life as you can't really live it without being interrupted by something that seriously can wait. Turn it off or shut it down and claim back your life. I have and it's so much better now.

Besides, I don't have enough time to blog anyway.

Re: The Best Free Software For Your Computer

I heard good things about the PC Decrapifier (nice name!) that takes out all that useless trial software that most manufacturers now bloat your computer with.
