in Gigaom pronounces unreleased, untested and unproven Blackberry Storm an iPhone and G1 killer on Gear Diary
If the Storm doesn't have Wi-Fi, I can't see it being the iPhone killer. I do agree that based on articles all over, it seems the Storm is quite an interesting device.
I personally would be interested in the Bold instead since I MUST have a keyboard and have no interest in a touch smartphone.
Had the iPhone supported wireless keyboards, I may consider getting it. I think the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 may be quite a device, although it's way too expensive. I'm drooling over that one.

in The Sprint Palm Treo 800w WM6 Phone Review on Gear Diary
Considering that it's Win Mobile and it finally comes with Wi-Fi, and it's hi-res, I guess it's something to get excited about. I guess I'm looking forward to the 850 and see what that comes with. Especially with so many new models coming in 2009, I guess I'm more interested in what is coming instead.

in Facebook: Dave Winer brings the hate on Mathew's comments
I am starting to get qutie tired of BLOGGERS BEHAVING BADLY and getting away with it. This is another fine example of how some of these more popular bloggers can turn their popularity in hopes of becoming celebrities.
In other words, he is really letting it all get to his head and giving bloggers a bad name.

in Please support our dying business model on Mathew's comments
I am getting more and more annoyed at the music industry for its insatiable greed.
Although I can understand that it's not right to steal music, (I prefer being the few dinosaurs out there that buy the physical CDs myself for the artwork and liner notes), but the music and entertainment industry is really getting out of hand.
I am not terribly happy that dentist and medical offices have to pay a fee to play music CDs at their waiting rooms or offices. And now that's extending to hairdressers. What's going to happen in the future? I'm sure that the libraries will be in the list some time in the future, since they are providing the CDs to borrowers, so who's to stop the borrowers from making a copy? This is getting ridiculous.
There's got to be a better way to promote the music so that more people are exposed to it and will pay for the creative work of the artists without having to resort to lawsuits. It looks like the EFF.org is onto something.
I for one, only still buy the CDs but really enjoy the online radio for the music exposure and for discovering new artists. But that's me.

in Mobile Web sucks — or maybe it doesn’t on Mathew's comments
Thanks! I did use Alex King's plugin but maybe I screwed up previously or didn't notice the view in full at the bottom but have installed it back and it works!
My main concern was not being able to log in but since I already have the login link on the sidebar and if I view the page in full, it will allow me to go in. Cool! Thanks again!

What plugin are you using that allows you to "view full HTML" with your mobile? Would you mind sharing it? I would love to get that plugin.

in Apple: What happened to thinking different? on Mathew's comments
I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I consider any company to be just like any other. Google, Apple and other big companies that we know are very similar to the other enemies that we like to label like Microsoft, etc. The only difference is that they are likely not at the very top and fighting to be.
I have long stopped being loyal to any one company since they aren't loyal to their customers either so we're even. So no, I don't think of Google as any better than Microsoft or other company.

in Mobile Web sucks — or maybe it doesn’t on Mathew's comments
I originally used Alex King's mobile plugin and it worked great but the only problem is that I can't log into my blog with my Treo since it won't take me to the login page. So, although my readers will love the plugin, it doesn't work for me. So, I disabled it for that since I want to be able to blog with my Treo.
I have since started using mo:blog and u*blog but still unsure about enabling the plugin again. I do have mobile links on the side bar so that people can visit my site with those links so it still works.
Russell is a bit overrated in my view but who cares about what I think?
I do find it annoying that the Blazer browser on my Treo is so underpowered to do much of anything. I need Flash support at least since too many sites require Flash in order to work.
That's all I'm complaining about now.

in TWiT Update on LOL: Life of Leo
I've long thought that you were crazy to keep all these podcasts and shows, blogs, etc running at the same time. Although I really think it's great but man, you are likely burning yourself too much with all these projects.
I have my own blog that I find that posting more than a few times a week is beyond what I can do. There's so much stuff that needs the time to prepare and edit and everything and there's also family. So, for me, after 2 years, I am finally settled in a rhythm that I can work without feeling stressed and burnt out.
The fans will still be there. Believe me, they will. Take an extended break at least from the podcasts to really get back to life before Leo (LOL). Your health, sanity and family should come way before the fans. Seriously.

in Partial Freakonomics feed = bad idea on Mathew's comments
I agree and also dislike partial feeds. It's annoying to have to make that extra click to view something so I instead just have Bloglines show the titles instead since it's a waste of time for me to have partial feeds. I don't understand, okay, I do know why they're there but certainly dislike them.

in Microsoft proves that irony is dead on Mathew's comments
It's about time that Microsoft is feeling the heat after years of world domination, er, technological innovation, er, nevermind. Google is pretty much the next Microsoft, if only in its dominance and similar practice of swallowing smaller competitors on its path to its behemoth size.
I fail to feel any sympathy for Microsoft nor am I on Google side either.

Interesting description of Mike Cane as the "crusty curmudgeon in the neighborhood (the one that is fun to watch when he is jumping up and down in the front lawn cussing at the kids nearby)". That's quite a thought.
I do enjoy *some* of his editorial. I don't care about his Girls Don't Cry posts and some of his ranting on other things. I do have to agree that he's got a lot of you know what to say what he thinks without any regard.
He does offer some interesting opinions from time to time and mainly the reason why I keep skimming for stuff I may find interesting.

in No this doesn’t mean Mark Cuban is right on Mathew's comments
It's practically impossible to monitor all uploaded content for copyright materials. Considering how huge YouTube is and how many users are uploading content every second, how many people would be needed to scan and monitor this? I personally believe that Viacom didn't get the money they wanted when they were negotiating with YouTube a month or so back (YouTube changed the guaranteed revenue according to an article at WSJ) and so they decided to slap YouTube in the face, first by announcing their agreement with Joost. Then, when it wasn't causing as big of a stir, they went with the 1B lawsuit to get YouTube back into the table. This is a sick strategy in my mind.
Google has the money and Viacom wants a piece of it. Simple as that. But what do I know?

in Damned if you do and damned if you don’t on Chris Leckness
I guess I am guilty of a lot of the points. I can't help with regards to the ads since I need the money to pay for the hosting and maintenance. I do not have adsense or similar type of ads in the feeds since I personally find them annoying. The ads you see are the affiliate links I've inserted in the actual post.
As for the lengthy posts, it's the way I write because a lot of my posts are reviews and I feel that it can only help to provide as much information on a product as possible.
I don't get too wrapped up about when people unsubscribe since I have to do what I do without being distracted. My main focus has always been to provide information that people will find helpful and interesting. I know that I can't please everyone.
As for the feeds, I have way too many and never seem to catch up with them. In NewsGator, I have over 1600 feeds but I'm starting to filter them out and find those that I really want to read. I can't help it. I just keep adding new ones every day. I'm a feed junkie I guess. Some days, I just mark everything "read" just to get rid of the huge number. ;)

Again, congrats to all the winners! Too bad I'm not one of them but then, I'm not sure if I even tried for one. Well, maybe one. I can't remember.
One of these days I'll be giving away some of my stuff. But then, I'll have to wait until I get enough cash to pay for all the fees first so it probably won't be until later on in the year (hopefully).

in The Cingular Palm Treo 750 Review on Gear Diary
Great review! It looks like the 750 is a pretty good Win Mobile Treo device but hopefully there will be a firmware update to address the problems with switching between UMTS and GPRS causing those dropped calls.
And I guess the 240x240 screen always make me think it's a downgrade from the Palm OS Treos.

in The OtterBox 7000 Series Laptop Case Review on Gear Diary
Great review as usual. But, if the case itself is going to weigh 7 pounds plus the weight of my own laptop which is around the same, wow, I will really feel it when carrying it around! I think this is one where they may want to offer the inline skate wheels so that you wouldn't have to lug it around. ;)
I have stopped carrying my laptop on trips due to the sheer weight and bulk of it, stuffing it underneath the seat or whatever. But it's nice to know that there is a tough case out there should I need one.

in I have more… on Chris Leckness
Thanks for the email and for clarifying. I was a bit stumped about what it was all about, especially the seemingly strange post. I guess it seems that this is happening a lot on various different PPC/WM topic sites.
I'm quite glad that my site is quite small that hardly gets any notice, but then it's hardly any news related so it will be quite obvious if anyone does take stuff from the site.
That's one of the reasons why I hardly post any news topics because there's way too many out there already, all competing to be the "first" or offer a huge batch. I knew that I couldn't spend the time to do it and also because my focus has always been to help rather than spread the news. I do post some from time to time but I really just enjoy writing. As I've already said before, it's more a hobby and I'm perfectly happy with it being small and known within the community.
Just added Aximsite and this blog in my blogroll. Always interesting to read what's out there in the community and your thoughts. Thanks for sharing.
