in How to Be More Interesting on Duct Tape Marketing
Thanks John!

Remember the Holy Trinity:

1. Nobody notices normal.
2. Nobody buys boring.
3. Nobody pays for average.

There is a direct correlation between how successful you are and how boring you are.

in Simplify on Duct Tape Marketing
Hey guys! I'm a little late in the discussion, but here are my two cents on simplicity:

1. If a question seems or sounds too simple, that's exactly why you should ask it.

2. Customers crave simplicity.

3. If you can’t describe your product eight words or less, it's not simple enough.

4. If you can’t explain your idea on the back of a business card, it’s not simple enough.

5. If you can’t explain your idea to a five year old, it’s not simple enough.

6. Simple can always BECOME complex, but not the other way around.

Great thread John!

REMEMBER: Simplicity IS sophistication.

in “Networking”: The Dirty Word on thevirtualhandshake
Based on my research, my definition of the term networking is "the development and maintenance of mutually valuable relationships." It’s not schmoozing; it’s not just handing out business cards, selling, marketing or small talk. Those activities are part of networking, but unfortunately, many people’s misunderstanding of the term causes them network ineffectively.

I think much of what Scott Allen said in his (great) article has to do with networking mistakes made by business people. I wrote a column last year called "The 7 Habits of Highly Horrible Networkers," and to learn more about the various networking misunderstandings, go here:
